2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Robert Ray "Bob" Holmes Sr., who | ||||||
4 | passed away on April 24, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes was born to Lowell Ray and Julia | ||||||
6 | Savanna (Newell) Holmes in rural Creal Springs on March 2, | ||||||
7 | 1942; he married Geraldine "Geri" Lucas on May 3, 1963, and she | ||||||
8 | preceded him in death on September 6, 2007; he later married | ||||||
9 | Gailene "Gail" Harrelson on July 23, 2021; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes worked for the City of Harrisburg | ||||||
11 | Water Department before serving as road commissioner for | ||||||
12 | Harrisburg Township for eight years; he also formerly worked | ||||||
13 | for the Peabody Coal Company; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes served his community as a volunteer | ||||||
15 | fireman for 43 years and as chairman for the Saline County | ||||||
16 | Republican Committee; he was a booster of local athletics, | ||||||
17 | volunteering for Harrisburg Youth Athletics by building | ||||||
18 | athletic facilities, and the annual River-to-River Road Race; | ||||||
19 | and

20 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes was a member of McKinley Avenue | ||||||
21 | Baptist Church, Quails Unlimited, and the Harrisburg Masonic |

1 | Lodge #325, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, | ||||||
3 | and he enjoyed spending hours in the field hunting whitetail | ||||||
4 | deer or following behind his bird dogs; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes will be remembered for being loyal, | ||||||
6 | honest, and community-minded; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
8 | his stepson, Troy Don Harrelson; his great-grandson, Michael | ||||||
9 | Robert Holmes; his grandson-in-law, Gonzalo Sabogal; and his | ||||||
10 | sister, Delia Alice "Deed" (Jean) Hollerson; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Bob Holmes is survived by his wife, Gail | ||||||
12 | Harrelson-Holmes; his children, Robert Ray (Joanne) Holmes Jr. | ||||||
13 | and Trena Lynn (Brent) Black; his stepchildren, Christina Ann | ||||||
14 | (Larry) Wheeler and Robert Glenn Harrelson; his | ||||||
15 | stepdaughter-in-law, Marie Harrelson; his grandchildren, | ||||||
16 | Rebecca, Amanda, Trenton, Sophia, Travis, Olivia, Colton, | ||||||
17 | Sheree, Dylan, Nicholas, Chelsea, Jacob, Tyler, and Angelica; | ||||||
18 | his great-grandchildren, Paizlee, Adilyn, Harper, Gianella, | ||||||
19 | Gunner, Lucas, Adien, Wallen, Arthur, and Connor; his | ||||||
