2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Deborah Bryant, who passed away on | ||||||
4 | April 17, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was born to LaVonia (Mann) Hamlin | ||||||
6 | and James Shaw in Brownsville, Tennessee; she attended | ||||||
7 | Fernwood Elementary School, St. Helena Catholic School, and | ||||||
8 | Harlan High School before furthering her studies at Olive | ||||||
9 | Harvey College; she married Lawrence Bryant, and they had one | ||||||
10 | daughter, Lauren Bryant; she later selflessly adopted five | ||||||
11 | children as her own, Katelin, James, Xavier, Rose, and Davis; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant made impactful contributions | ||||||
14 | throughout her professional career at a number of esteemed | ||||||
15 | institutions, including Cook County Hospital, Michael Reese | ||||||
16 | Hospital, RR Donnelley Publishing, and the MetroMail | ||||||
17 | Corporation; and
| ||||||
18 | WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant resided in the Village of Hazel | ||||||
19 | Crest for 35 years, where she became a familiar and beloved | ||||||
20 | figure on the block of Longfellow Avenue; her vibrant spirit | ||||||
21 | lit up every gathering, and she reveled in the joy of | ||||||
22 | socializing, stepping, dancing, and sharing laughter with |

2 | WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant committed to her faith at an early | ||||||
3 | age, and she was a member of Valley Kingdom Ministries | ||||||
4 | International until her passing; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was known for her boundless heart, | ||||||
6 | warmth, and kindness; she will be remembered for her radiant | ||||||
7 | personality, nurturing spirit, and her legacy of love and | ||||||
8 | laughter; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Deborah Bryant was the mother of six; the | ||||||
10 | grandmother of Amir, Chase, and Chanel; the sister of Sheila | ||||||
11 | (Jonathan) Chalmers-Currin and Jamel Hamlin; the aunt of | ||||||
12 | Kelika Baker and Keith Scott Chalmers; the relation of a host | ||||||
13 | of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family; and a special | ||||||
14 | friend of Barbara, Les, Tammy, Deni, Sarah, Greg, Larry, and | ||||||
15 | many more; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
17 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
18 | Deborah Bryant and extend our sincere condolences to her | ||||||
19 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
