2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Gary Lee Bartels of St. Elmo, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on March 17, 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was born to Monroe and Melba | ||||||
6 | (Austin) Bartels in Wheaton on September 7, 1957; he married | ||||||
7 | Glenda Mellendorf in rural St. Elmo on May 27, 1993; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Gary Bartels owned and operated MBI Construction; | ||||||
9 | additionally, he served as president of CCI Redi-Mix and as a | ||||||
10 | trustee of the St. Elmo Fire Department; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was a member of the Church of God in | ||||||
12 | St. Elmo; he was also a member of the National Rifle | ||||||
13 | Association (NRA), the American Quarter Horse Association | ||||||
14 | (AQHA), and the American Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), | ||||||
15 | as well as a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation; | ||||||
16 | and

17 | WHEREAS, Gary Bartels loved hunting, riding horses, | ||||||
18 | telling jokes, and the month of October; he was a helicopter | ||||||
19 | pilot, a fan of the Chicago Cubs, and a jack-of-all-trades; | ||||||

1 | WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was preceded in death by his father; | ||||||

3 | WHEREAS, Gary Bartels is survived by his wife; his mother; | ||||||
4 | his sons, Joshua Gary (Kayla) Bartels and Garrett (Grace) | ||||||
5 | Bartels; his daughters, Tamela (Justin) Polanin, Heather | ||||||
6 | (Josh) Nelson, and Jessica (Nathan) Lotz; his brothers, Monte | ||||||
7 | (Shirley) Bartels and James (Patti) Bartels; his sisters, | ||||||
8 | Sheryl (Troy) Kyle and Janis (Steve) Holste; 15 grandchildren; | ||||||
9 | and 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
