1		SENATE RESOLUTION
2		WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3		to learn of the death of Gary Lee Bartels of St. Elmo, who
4		passed away on March 17, 2024; and
5		WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was born to Monroe and Melba
6		(Austin) Bartels in Wheaton on September 7, 1957; he married
7		Glenda Mellendorf in rural St. Elmo on May 27, 1993; and
8		WHEREAS, Gary Bartels owned and operated MBI Construction;
9		additionally, he served as president of CCI Redi-Mix and as a
10		trustee of the St. Elmo Fire Department; and
11		WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was a member of the Church of God in
12		St. Elmo; he was also a member of the National Rifle
13		Association (NRA), the American Quarter Horse Association
14		(AQHA), and the American Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA),
15		as well as a life member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation;
16		and
17		WHEREAS, Gary Bartels loved hunting, riding horses,
18		telling jokes, and the month of October; he was a helicopter
19		pilot, a fan of the Chicago Cubs, and a jack-of-all-trades;
20		and

1		WHEREAS, Gary Bartels was preceded in death by his father;
2		and
3		WHEREAS, Gary Bartels is survived by his wife; his mother;
4		his sons, Joshua Gary (Kayla) Bartels and Garrett (Grace)
5		Bartels; his daughters, Tamela (Justin) Polanin, Heather
6		(Josh) Nelson, and Jessica (Nathan) Lotz; his brothers, Monte
7		(Shirley) Bartels and James (Patti) Bartels; his sisters,
8		Sheryl (Troy) Kyle and Janis (Steve) Holste; 15 grandchildren;
9		and 4 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
10		RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11		ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12		Gary Lee Bartels and extend our sincere condolences to his
13		family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
