SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Frank J. Johanik, who passed away on
4 April 18, 2010; and
5 WHEREAS, Frank Johanik was born in Chicago; he and his
6 family moved to Westmont when he was 9 months old; he was a
7 graduate of Hinsdale High School and was a lifelong resident of
8 Westmont; and
9 WHEREAS, Frank Johanik served his country with pride and
10 distinction as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps in the South
11 Pacific during World War II; and
12 WHEREAS, Frank Johanik joined the Westmont Fire Department
13 in 1950; he retired in 1993 after 26 years as chief and 43
14 years of total service; he was also a member of the first class
15 for emergency medical technicians at La Grange Community
16 Hospital and helped spearhead the successful referendum
17 measure for the paramedic program in Westmont; and
18 WHEREAS, Frank Johanik was a founding member of the
19 Cook-DuPage Mutual Aid Association, which is now part of the
20 Mutual Aid Box Alarm System; after rising through the ranks to
21 take over as chief of the Westmont Fire Department in 1967, he

1 helped form the DuPage County Fire Chiefs Association and
2 briefly served as the group's president; he also served as the
3 village's director of building inspection in the 1950s and
4 1960s; during that time, he and his late brother, Joseph, also
5 operated F.J. Johanik Builders; and
6 WHEREAS, Frank Johanik was preceded in death by his wife,
7 Lorraine; and
8 WHEREAS, Frank Johanik is survived by his daughters, Marie
9 Guzzo and Marilyn Bray; his sister, Mildred Bazata; his 2
10 grandsons; his step-grandson; and his step-granddaughter;
11 therefore, be it
12 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 his family and friends, the passing of Frank J. Johanik; and be
15 it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Frank Johanik as an expression of
18 our sympathy.
