SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ralph F. Coomes of Moline, who passed
4away on February 3, 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was born to John and Fannie
6(Ridenour) Coomes in Evansville, Indiana on July 7, 1925; he
7served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945; he graduated from
8Bosse High School in Evansville in 1946; he married Lucille
9Lawson in Litchfield on June 21, 1948, and she preceded him in
10death in 2005 after 57 years of marriage; and
11 WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was a salesman for Newberry's,
12Goodyear, and then Reflex Fitness Products in Milan, retiring
13in 2013; and
14 WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was a member of Grace Bible
15Fellowship, VFW Post 2153, and the Friends Circle Club,
16Moline; and
17 WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was proud to attend an Honor Flight
18in 2010; he was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs; and
19 WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes was preceded in death by his
20parents; his daughter, Karen Woods; his grandson, Steven

1Woods; and his great-grandson, Nathan Woods; and
2 WHEREAS, Ralph Coomes is survived by his children, Diane
3(Craig) Askam and Dave (Elaine) Coomes; his grandchildren,
4George (Chanda) Woods, Chris (Mark) Wilson, Heather (Mark)
5Johnson, Jody (Steven) Kern, Tim (Jodie) Askam, Kim (Ryan)
6Woodward, and Kyle (Laura Poffenbarger James) Coomes; his
7great-grandchildren, Brenon Wilson, Alex Kern, Jacob Kern,
8Garret Johnson, Henry Woodward, Lucy Woodward, Owen Woodward,
9Taylor (Trevor) O'Neill, Chelsey (Mike) Krocza, Kendal Gruman,
10Julia DePriest, and Jarod DePriest; and his
11great-great-grandchildren, Reid Krocza, Dane Krocza, Olivia
12O'Neill, and Jackson O'Neill; therefore, be it
13 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15Ralph F. Coomes and extend our sincere condolences to his
16family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
