SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Emery S. "Whitey" Schomer of East Moline,
who passed away on September 29, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Emery Schomer was born in Rock Island to Morgan
and Pauline (McGuire) Schomer on September 21, 1935; he served
in the United States Navy during the Korean War; he married
Kathleen A. Welch in Rock Island on January 10, 1959; and
WHEREAS, Emery Schomer was employed in the Tool and Die
Room at John Deere Harvester Works for 30 years; and
WHEREAS, Emery Schomer was a member of the Moline Jaycees;
he was a member of the American Legion Post 246, where he was
commander for a time and proudly served as a member of the
Legion Honor Guard; he assisted with the Miss Mississippi
Valley Beauty Pageants; and
WHEREAS, Emery Schomer was preceded in death by his
parents; his wife, Kathleen; his brothers, Richard and Henry;
his children, Paul and Elizabeth; and his son-in-law, Curtis L.
Whitten; and
WHEREAS, Emery Schomer is survived by his daughters,

Rosetta Whitten and Rhonda Westmorland; his grandchildren,
Julie Whitten, Curtis R. Whitten, Steaphanie Smith, James
Westmorland, Jessica Smith, and Jerrica Westmorland; and ten
great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Emery S. "Whitey" Schomer and extend our sincere condolences to
his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Emery Schomer as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
