| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of George John Schlenker of Rock Island, | ||||||
4 | who passed away on September 15, 2021; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, George Schlenker was born to Carl and Flora | ||||||
6 | (Boerger) Schlenker in Fort Wayne, Indiana on July 23, 1931; | ||||||
7 | he attended Fort Wayne Public Schools and graduated from | ||||||
8 | Indiana University with a bachelor's degree in 1953; he then | ||||||
9 | attended the University of Iowa Graduate Program and received | ||||||
10 | his master's degree in engineering in 1968; he married Emily | ||||||
11 | C. Diehl in Moline on April 28, 1962, and they divorced in | ||||||
12 | 1993; he served in the U.S. Army; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, George Schlenker taught in the graduate school | ||||||
14 | program at Indiana University for one year; he then taught for | ||||||
15 | the Fort Wayne public school system for two years before | ||||||
16 | entering the Army; after being honorably discharged, he was | ||||||
17 | employed as an operations research analyst with the Rock | ||||||
18 | Island Civilian Service for the Department of the Army until | ||||||
19 | his retirement in 1996; and

20 | WHEREAS, George Schlenker received the Army Civilian | ||||||
21 | Meritorious Service Award from the Department of Defense for | ||||||
22 | his work on guided missile systems; and

1 | WHEREAS, In retirement, George Schlenker pursued a | ||||||
2 | lifelong passion for photography, winning awards for his bird | ||||||
3 | portraits and exhibiting regionally; he also cultivated a | ||||||
4 | passion for the visual arts and Native American history | ||||||
5 | throughout his life; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, George Schlenker is survived by his children, | ||||||
7 | Charles (Sarah Curtis) Schlenker and Lisa Anne (Steve | ||||||
8 | Gillingham) Schlenker; his grandchildren, Benjamin Curtis | ||||||
9 | Johnson and Ethan Curtis Schlenker; his sister, Alice (Paul) | ||||||
10 | Mutschlecner; and his niece and nephews, David, Tim, and | ||||||
11 | Celia; therefore, be it

12 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL | ||||||
13 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
14 | George John Schlenker and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
15 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
16 | further

18 | presented to the family of George Schlenker as an expression | ||||||
19 | of our deepest sympathy.
