2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of the Rev. Clark D. Luce of Moline, who | ||||||
4 | passed away on February 20, 2017; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Rev. Luce was born in Elyria, Ohio to Clark C. and | ||||||
6 | Virginia Blood Luce on July 14, 1927; he served in the United | ||||||
7 | States Army during World War II and in the United States Air | ||||||
8 | Force during the Korean Conflict; he married Myra Roesler in | ||||||
9 | Waseca, Minnesota on November 27, 1954; they celebrated 61 | ||||||
10 | years and 127 days of marriage prior to her death on April 3, | ||||||
11 | 2016; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Rev. Luce graduated from Northern Baptist | ||||||
13 | Theological Seminary in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in | ||||||
14 | religion and in 1972 with a Master of Divinity; he served as | ||||||
15 | pastor of First Baptist Churches of Lexington, Nokomis, East | ||||||
16 | Moline, Park Forest, and Kankakee; he retired in 1996; and

17 | WHEREAS, Rev. Luce enjoyed traveling with his wife and | ||||||
18 | spending time with his family; his leisurely interests included | ||||||
19 | reading, swimming, traveling, following the Cubs and the Bears, | ||||||
20 | and attending weekly veterans meetings; he was a loving | ||||||
21 | husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; he was a | ||||||
22 | fun person with a wonderful sense of humor, receiving |

1 | satisfaction from making others laugh; he saw each new | ||||||
2 | challenge as an adventure; all who knew him will dearly miss | ||||||
3 | him; and

4 | WHEREAS, Rev. Luce was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
5 | his stepmother, Jane Luce; his wife; his brothers, Blaine and | ||||||
6 | Robert Luce; and his son-in-law, Blair Smith; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Rev. Luce is survived by his daughters, Becky | ||||||
8 | Kelley, Melanie (Troy) Frericks, and Rhonda Smith; his son, | ||||||
9 | Kevin Luce; his grandchildren, Matthew, Ashley, Amanda, Molly, | ||||||
10 | Jacob, Nicole, and Erica; a great-grandson, Cohwen; his | ||||||
11 | siblings, Joan (John) Hormel, John (Mindy) Luce, Claudia | ||||||
12 | (Arden) Sims, and Susan Bossley (William Rady); and his special | ||||||
13 | kitty, Sammy; therefore, be it

14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | ||||||
15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
16 | the Rev. Clark D. Luce, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
17 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
18 | further

19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
20 | presented to the family of Rev. Luce as an expression of our | ||||||
21 | deepest sympathy.
