SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The study of music is basic to a complete
3education; it provides a competitive edge for successful
4educational reform, engages students in individual and group
5activity, and develops creativity, problem-solving, and
6critical and evaluative skills; and
7 WHEREAS, Music education helps students acquire skills in
8the production and performance of music, as well as an
9understanding of history and culture; and
10 WHEREAS, The Illinois Music Educators Association is
11concerned with maintaining and improving school music programs
12for all students regardless of their socioeconomic status or
13their abilities; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize and
16commend the Illinois Music Educators Association for their
17concern for and efforts to enhance the quality of music
18education in Illinois schools; and be it further
19 RESOLVED, That we proclaim the month of March of 2017 as
20"Music In Our Schools Month", and we urge the observance of
21Music In Our Schools Month as an opportunity to support the
