SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Hadiya Zaymara Pendleton of Chicago, who
passed away on January 29, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton was born on June 2, 1997; her
parents were Anthony and Cleopatra Pendleton; and
WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton accepted the Lord as her personal
savior at the Christian Covenant Baptist Church; in October of
2007, she and her family joined the Greater Deliverance Temple
Church of Church; she was also a member of the church's Youth
and Teen Ministries and worked with the church's Teen Praise
Dance and nursery; and
WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton began her education at the Small
Stride Academy; she subsequently attended Schoop Academy,
Marva Collins, Providence St. Mel, Donoghue (UIC), Carter G.
Woodson, and Martin Luther King College Prep; she aspired to
major in pharmacology and journalism in college; and
WHEREAS, Hadiya Pendleton is survived by her parents; her
brother, Nathaniel; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins,
godparents, community parents, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
her family and friends, the passing of Hadiya Zaymara
Pendleton; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Hadiya Pendleton as an expression of
our sympathy.
