2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Larry Dean Ehmen of Quincy, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on January 4, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was born to E. Dale and Meveline | ||||||
6 | Heinecke Ehmen in Quincy on January 16, 1940; he was raised in | ||||||
7 | the area near Golden and graduated from Central High School in | ||||||
8 | 1957; he received a Bachelor of Science in Physics and | ||||||
9 | Mathematics from Western Illinois University in Macomb and a | ||||||
10 | Master of Science in Natural Science from Rensselaer | ||||||
11 | Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York; he married Reva Ann | ||||||
12 | Post at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Bowen on Thanksgiving Day, | ||||||
13 | November 22, 1962; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen taught high school physics at Central | ||||||
15 | High School from 1961 to 1963 and at Quincy High School from | ||||||
16 | 1963 to 1978; during his time at Quincy High School, he was one | ||||||
17 | of the founders of the Quincy Conference; he was a co-owner of | ||||||
18 | Fisher Business Equipment Company for 20 years and was also | ||||||
19 | the co-owner and manager of Twin Mill Investments; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was elected Adams County Recorder | ||||||
21 | with the intent to eliminate the position; he served from 2000 | ||||||
22 | until 2004 when the position was eliminated; he was a true |

1 | statesman and gentleman when seeking resolution to complex | ||||||
2 | issues; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, During his life, Larry Ehmen was active in | ||||||
4 | community affairs, including the Quincy Jaycees, the Quincy | ||||||
5 | Exchange Club, the Adams County Republican Party in which he | ||||||
6 | served as chairman for eight years, the United Way of Adams | ||||||
7 | County, Transitions of Western Illinois, Mental Health | ||||||
8 | Authority & Recovery Resources, the Adams County Board where | ||||||
9 | he served as chairman for two years, Ellington Township where | ||||||
10 | he served as supervisor for 43 years, and the Quincy Community | ||||||
11 | Theater where he appeared in productions; he served on the | ||||||
12 | Walter Hammond Day Care board for 25 years and was president of | ||||||
13 | the board for 17 years; he served on the Western Illinois | ||||||
14 | University Foundation Board for 25 years, including two years | ||||||
15 | as president; he helped create the Great River Economic | ||||||
16 | Development Foundation and served as the first president; he | ||||||
17 | and his wife were co-presidents of the Illinois State | ||||||
18 | University Parents Association during the time their children | ||||||
19 | attended the University; he and his wife were members of | ||||||
20 | Spring Lake Country Club for 30 years, and he served on the | ||||||
21 | board; he was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church since | ||||||
22 | 1962 where he served on several committees, held offices, and | ||||||
23 | dedicated his last five years of volunteer service solely to | ||||||
24 | the church;

1 | WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen was passionate about cars, but he was | ||||||
2 | also a private pilot, rode motorcycles, and had pleasure boats | ||||||
3 | on the river; he enjoyed working in his yard and instilling | ||||||
4 | that passion in his children, whether they liked it or not; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his | ||||||
6 | brother, Jim Ehmen; his sister-in-law, Charity Ehmen; and his | ||||||
7 | brother-in-law, David White; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Larry Ehmen is survived by his wife of 60 years, | ||||||
9 | Reva; his four children, Shelly (Doug) Quinn, Brad (Karol) | ||||||
10 | Ehmen, Heidi (fiancé Parker Armbruster) Schlipman, and Ryan | ||||||
11 | (Lynn) Ehmen; his 13 grandchildren, Hailey and Hayden Quinn, | ||||||
12 | Lauren (fiancé Sam Triplett) Mueller, Maddi, Ella, and Anna | ||||||
13 | Ehmen, Alex, Avery, and Alayna Schlipman, Peri Jane (fiancé | ||||||
14 | Brendan Duffy) Ehmen, and Bennett, Rowan, and Josie Ehmen; his | ||||||
15 | sister, Pat White; and several nieces and nephews; therefore, | ||||||
16 | be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
18 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
19 | Larry Dean Ehmen and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
20 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
21 | further

22 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
