SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Marene Hardy-Bates, who passed away on
December 7, 2012; and
WHEREAS, Marene Hardy-Bates was born on October 24, 1954,
in Grenada, Mississippi; her parents were Irene and Cleodoa
Miers Sr.; and
WHEREAS, Marene Hardy-Bates grew up in Mississippi before
moving to Joliet in the late 1970s; after moving to Joliet, she
dabbled in several industries before finding her niche in
education in the early 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Marene Hardy-Bates was a devoted Christian and a
proud member and vice president of the Lebanon District Nurses;
and
WHEREAS, Marene Hardy-Bates was preceded in death by her
daughter, Monica LaShun Hardy, and her parents; and
WHEREAS, Marene Hardy-Bates is survived by her loving
husband, Clarence Bates Sr.; her sons, Gregory (Elisha) Hardy
and Tavaras (Billee) Hardy; her grandchildren, Mariah Hardy,
Jasmine Hardy, and Ian Hardy; her sister, Louise (Joseph)

Jones; her brothers, Cleveland Myers and Cleodoa (Shawnaa)
Miers Jr.; and her many nieces, nephews, stepchildren, cousins,
other relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
her family and friends, the passing of Marene Hardy-Bates; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Marene Hardy-Bates as an expression
of our sympathy.
