2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Grethel Evadney Eversley, who passed away | ||||||
4 | in 2018; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley was born in the City of Belize to | ||||||
6 | Henry George and Kathleen Adeilia James on April 17, 1934; the | ||||||
7 | third of ten children, she moved with her family to Bermuda in | ||||||
8 | 1954; while most of her family remained in Bermuda, she | ||||||
9 | graduated from The Rhode Island Business and Reading Institute | ||||||
10 | with a certificate of specialization in general office skills | ||||||
11 | on June 29 1973; simultaneously, she graduated from the State | ||||||
12 | of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations Department of | ||||||
13 | Education, where she earned her Senior High School Equivalency | ||||||
14 | Diploma; she went back to Bermuda in 1978, and when she | ||||||
15 | returned to the United States, she completed the All-Metro | ||||||
16 | Aides Program; she also received her certificate of | ||||||
17 | consecration as a deaconess at the Shiloh Baptist Church in | ||||||
18 | Jamaica, New York on January 30, 1994; that same year, she | ||||||
19 | earned a certificate of achievement from the Shiloh Baptist | ||||||
20 | Church Scholarship Committee for her distinguished leadership; | ||||||
21 | and

22 | WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley worked as a licensed Family Day | ||||||
23 | Care Mother in the State of Rhode Island from 1973 until 1978; |

2 | WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley was committed to her faith and a | ||||||
3 | self-taught theologian; she enjoyed reading the Bible and | ||||||
4 | collecting antiques, porcelain figurines, crystal glasses, | ||||||
5 | antique cups, and vintage pots; in celebration of her family, | ||||||
6 | pictures of the people who mattered most to her adorned her | ||||||
7 | home; her children brought her great joy; and

8 | WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley is survived by her children, | ||||||
9 | Betty, Eugene, and Glenn; her grandchildren, Zakia, Simaya, | ||||||
10 | Simona, Eujon, Alexander, and Kamil; her great-granddaughter, | ||||||
11 | Sariah; her daughters-in-law, Donyale and Tonita; her | ||||||
12 | brothers, Gerald, George, Maurice, Ronald, and Richard; her | ||||||
13 | sisters, Phyllis, Claudia, and Grace; her sisters-in-law, | ||||||
14 | Mary, Marion, Valerie, and Rose; her aunt, Hortense Gill; her | ||||||
15 | nephews, Eugene, Wayne, Robert, George Jr., Stanley, Maurice, | ||||||
16 | Anthony, Edward, Kheri, Omar, Hafid, and Kyle; her nieces, | ||||||
17 | Debra, Jennifer, Gina, Renee, Dorothy, Lisa, Angela, Amber, | ||||||
18 | Marika, Tisha, and Ronnele; her many great-nephews and | ||||||
19 | great-nieces; her special friend, Maria Santana Miladias; and | ||||||
20 | her many other friends; therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
22 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
23 | Grethel Evadney Eversley and extend our sincere condolences to |

1 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||

3 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
