SENATE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
learn of the death of Grethel Evadney Eversley, who passed away
in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley was born in the City of Belize to
Henry George and Kathleen Adeilia James on April 17, 1934; the
third of ten children, she moved with her family to Bermuda in
1954; while most of her family remained in Bermuda, she
graduated from The Rhode Island Business and Reading Institute
with a certificate of specialization in general office skills
on June 29 1973; simultaneously, she graduated from the State
of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations Department of
Education, where she earned her Senior High School Equivalency
Diploma; she went back to Bermuda in 1978, and when she
returned to the United States, she completed the All-Metro
Aides Program; she also received her certificate of
consecration as a deaconess at the Shiloh Baptist Church in
Jamaica, New York on January 30, 1994; that same year, she
earned a certificate of achievement from the Shiloh Baptist
Church Scholarship Committee for her distinguished leadership;
and
WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley worked as a licensed Family Day
Care Mother in the State of Rhode Island from 1973 until 1978;

and
WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley was committed to her faith and a
self-taught theologian; she enjoyed reading the Bible and
collecting antiques, porcelain figurines, crystal glasses,
antique cups, and vintage pots; in celebration of her family,
pictures of the people who mattered most to her adorned her
home; her children brought her great joy; and
WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley is survived by her children,
Betty, Eugene, and Glenn; her grandchildren, Zakia, Simaya,
Simona, Eujon, Alexander, and Kamil; her great-granddaughter,
Sariah; her daughters-in-law, Donyale and Tonita; her
brothers, Gerald, George, Maurice, Ronald, and Richard; her
sisters, Phyllis, Claudia, and Grace; her sisters-in-law,
Mary, Marion, Valerie, and Rose; her aunt, Hortense Gill; her
nephews, Eugene, Wayne, Robert, George Jr., Stanley, Maurice,
Anthony, Edward, Kheri, Omar, Hafid, and Kyle; her nieces,
Debra, Jennifer, Gina, Renee, Dorothy, Lisa, Angela, Amber,
Marika, Tisha, and Ronnele; her many great-nephews and
great-nieces; her special friend, Maria Santana Miladias; and
her many other friends; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
Grethel Evadney Eversley and extend our sincere condolences to

her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Grethel Eversley as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
