SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Grethel Evadney Eversley, who passed away
4in 2018; and
5 WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley was born in the City of Belize to
6Henry George and Kathleen Adeilia James on April 17, 1934; the
7third of ten children, she moved with her family to Bermuda in
81954; while most of her family remained in Bermuda, she
9graduated from The Rhode Island Business and Reading Institute
10with a certificate of specialization in general office skills
11on June 29 1973; simultaneously, she graduated from the State
12of Rhode Island & Providence Plantations Department of
13Education, where she earned her Senior High School Equivalency
14Diploma; she went back to Bermuda in 1978, and when she
15returned to the United States, she completed the All-Metro
16Aides Program; she also received her certificate of
17consecration as a deaconess at the Shiloh Baptist Church in
18Jamaica, New York on January 30, 1994; that same year, she
19earned a certificate of achievement from the Shiloh Baptist
20Church Scholarship Committee for her distinguished leadership;
21and
22 WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley worked as a licensed Family Day
23Care Mother in the State of Rhode Island from 1973 until 1978;

2 WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley was committed to her faith and a
3self-taught theologian; she enjoyed reading the Bible and
4collecting antiques, porcelain figurines, crystal glasses,
5antique cups, and vintage pots; in celebration of her family,
6pictures of the people who mattered most to her adorned her
7home; her children brought her great joy; and
8 WHEREAS, Grethel Eversley is survived by her children,
9Betty, Eugene, and Glenn; her grandchildren, Zakia, Simaya,
10Simona, Eujon, Alexander, and Kamil; her great-granddaughter,
11Sariah; her daughters-in-law, Donyale and Tonita; her
12brothers, Gerald, George, Maurice, Ronald, and Richard; her
13sisters, Phyllis, Claudia, and Grace; her sisters-in-law,
14Mary, Marion, Valerie, and Rose; her aunt, Hortense Gill; her
15nephews, Eugene, Wayne, Robert, George Jr., Stanley, Maurice,
16Anthony, Edward, Kheri, Omar, Hafid, and Kyle; her nieces,
17Debra, Jennifer, Gina, Renee, Dorothy, Lisa, Angela, Amber,
18Marika, Tisha, and Ronnele; her many great-nephews and
19great-nieces; her special friend, Maria Santana Miladias; and
20her many other friends; therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
23Grethel Evadney Eversley and extend our sincere condolences to

3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
