| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Laurence A. "Larry" Dondanville of | ||||||
4 | Deerfield, who passed away on January 1, 2023; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville was born in Rock Island to Dr. | ||||||
6 | Laurence and Eva (Ender) Dondanville on March 28, 1928 and was | ||||||
7 | raised in Moline; he attended St. Ambrose Academy in | ||||||
8 | Davenport, Iowa and graduated from Purdue University in 1950 | ||||||
9 | with a degree in civil engineering; he was inducted into the | ||||||
10 | U.S. Army and used his civil engineering skills as a corporal | ||||||
11 | in a topographic battalion in the Philippines from 1950 to | ||||||
12 | 1952; the following year, he married Rose Mary Lacey in | ||||||
13 | Washington, D.C., and they moved to Chicago; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville moved his family to Deerfield | ||||||
15 | in 1956 onto the land where his mother had grown up and that | ||||||
16 | had been in his family since 1901; he designed the plans and | ||||||
17 | oversaw the construction of their home, where he lived for the | ||||||
18 | next 62 years; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville worked at De Leuw, Cather & | ||||||
20 | Company, a Chicago-based consulting engineering firm; he had a | ||||||
21 | successful career as a civil engineer and worked on projects | ||||||
22 | around the world, including the suspension bridge across the |

1 | Bosphorus Straits in Istanbul, Turkey, the Kuwait and Abu | ||||||
2 | Dhabi Motorway Systems, the Sydney and Perth Australia | ||||||
3 | Expressway Systems, and the Mass Rapid Transit Rail Systems in | ||||||
4 | Singapore and Taipei; and

5 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville enjoyed traveling with his | ||||||
6 | friends and family in his retirement and took his family on | ||||||
7 | trips to Hawaii, Europe, Alaska, and the Caribbean; and
| ||||||
8 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville was a man of many talents and | ||||||
9 | was dedicated to his community; he was proud to be descended | ||||||
10 | from the founders of Deerfield who donated much to the | ||||||
11 | building of Holy Cross Catholic Parish, the rectory, church, | ||||||
12 | and school; he kept his yard impeccably maintained and was | ||||||
13 | actively engaged in the village; he was also deeply interested | ||||||
14 | in his family history and kept genealogy records for decades, | ||||||
15 | eventually creating a website to connect the Dondanville | ||||||
16 | family worldwide; and

17 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville was preceded in death by his | ||||||
18 | wife, Rose Mary; his parents; his brother, Dr. Louis | ||||||
19 | Dondanville; and his sister, Patricia Fieweger; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Larry Dondanville is survived by his daughters, | ||||||
21 | Margaret (Keith Cooley), Jeanne Kodner, and Catherine (Dave | ||||||
22 | Karam); his son, Larry Jr. (Cathy); his grandchildren, Luke, |

1 | Colleen, Sean, Lindsey, and Kevin; his great-grandchildren, | ||||||
2 | Roya, Isabelle, Rowan, and Fiona; his sister, Catherine | ||||||
3 | Dondanville; his brother, John (Maureen) Dondanville; and | ||||||
4 | numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
5 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
6 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
7 | Laurence A. "Larry" Dondanville and extend our sincere | ||||||
8 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
9 | him; and be it further

10 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
11 | presented to the family of Larry Dondanville as an expression | ||||||
12 | of our deepest sympathy.
