Bill Title: Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that beginning with the general election in 2022 and every six years thereafter, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor shall hold office for 6 years (rather than four years). Provides that no person shall be elected to more than one term as Governor. Effective upon being declared adopted.

5 | CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the | |||||||||||||||||||
6 | electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general | |||||||||||||||||||
7 | election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of | |||||||||||||||||||
8 | this resolution a proposition to amend Section 2 of Article 5 | |||||||||||||||||||
9 | of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

13 | SECTION 2. TERMS
| |||||||||||||||||||
14 | (a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b), these | |||||||||||||||||||
15 | These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall hold | |||||||||||||||||||
16 | office for
four years beginning on the second Monday of January | |||||||||||||||||||
17 | after their
election and, except in the case of the Lieutenant | |||||||||||||||||||
18 | Governor, until their
successors are qualified. They shall be | |||||||||||||||||||
19 | elected at the general election
in 1978 and every four years | |||||||||||||||||||
20 | thereafter.

5 | This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being | ||||||
6 | declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois | ||||||
