SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
ILCON Art. V, Sec. 2

Proposes to amend the Executive Article of the Illinois Constitution. Provides that beginning with the general election in 2022 and every six years thereafter, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor shall hold office for 6 years (rather than four years). Provides that no person shall be elected to more than one term as Governor. Effective upon being declared adopted.

3 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
4ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
5CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8this resolution a proposition to amend Section 2 of Article 5
9of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

13SECTION 2. TERMS
14 (a) Except as otherwise provided in subsection (b), these
15These elected officers of the Executive Branch shall hold
16office for four years beginning on the second Monday of January
17after their election and, except in the case of the Lieutenant
18Governor, until their successors are qualified. They shall be
19elected at the general election in 1978 and every four years
20thereafter.
21 (b) Beginning with the general election in 2022 and every
22six years thereafter, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor
23shall hold office for six years beginning on the second Monday

SCHEDULE
5 This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
6declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
