Bill Title: Amends the Children and Family Services Act. Provides that a child protective investigator is authorized to carry and use personal protection spray devices, such as mace, pepper mace, or pepper gas, for self-defense purposes while investigating a report of child abuse or neglect if the child protective investigator has been trained on the proper use of such personal protection spray devices by the Illinois State Police. Requires the Illinois State Police to establish a training program for child protective investigators on the proper use of personal protection spray devices for self-defense purposes. Requires the Department of Children and Family Services to provide funding for the training program. Effective immediately.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
20 ILCS 505/21.6 new

Amends the Children and Family Services Act. 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is amended
5by adding Section 21.6 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 505/21.6 new)
7 Sec. 21.6. Child protective investigators; personal
8protection spray devices. A child protective investigator is
9authorized to carry and use personal protection spray devices,
10such as mace, pepper mace, or pepper gas, for self-defense
11purposes while investigating a report of child abuse or
12neglect if the child protective investigator has been trained
13on the proper use of such personal protection spray devices by
14the Illinois State Police. The Illinois State Police shall
15establish a training program for child protective
16investigators on the proper use of personal protection spray
17devices for self-defense purposes. The Department shall
18provide funding for the training program.
19 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20becoming law.
