| 1 | AN ACT concerning animals.
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, | |||||||||||||||||||
| 3 | represented in the General Assembly:
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 4 | Section 5. The Animal Control Act is amended by changing | |||||||||||||||||||
| 5 | Section 8 as follows:
| |||||||||||||||||||

| 7 | Sec. 8. Rabies inoculation. Every owner of a dog 4 months | |||||||||||||||||||
| 8 | or more of age shall have each dog
inoculated against rabies
by | |||||||||||||||||||
| 9 | a licensed veterinarian. Every dog shall
have a second rabies | |||||||||||||||||||
| 10 | vaccination within one year of the
the first. Terms of
| |||||||||||||||||||
| 11 | subsequent
vaccine administration and duration of immunity | |||||||||||||||||||
| 12 | must be in compliance with USDA
licenses of vaccines used. A | |||||||||||||||||||
| 13 | veterinarian immunizing a dog, cat, or ferret against rabies | |||||||||||||||||||
| 14 | shall provide the Administrator of the county in which the dog, | |||||||||||||||||||
| 15 | cat, or ferret resides with a certificate of immunization. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 16 | Evidence of such rabies
inoculation shall be entered on a | |||||||||||||||||||
| 17 | certificate the form of which shall be
approved by the Board | |||||||||||||||||||
| 18 | and which shall contain the microchip number of the dog, cat, | |||||||||||||||||||
| 19 | or ferret if it has one and which shall be signed by the | |||||||||||||||||||
| 20 | licensed
veterinarian administering the vaccine. Only one dog, | |||||||||||||||||||
| 21 | cat, or ferret shall be included on each certificate. | |||||||||||||||||||
| 22 | Veterinarians who inoculate a dog
shall procure from the County | |||||||||||||||||||
| 23 | Animal
Control in the county where their office is located
| |||||||||||||||||||

| |||||||
| 1 | serially
numbered tags, one to be issued with each inoculation | ||||||
| 2 | certificate. The
Board shall cause a rabies
inoculation tag to | ||||||
| 3 | be issued, at a fee established by the Board
for each
dog | ||||||
| 4 | inoculated against rabies. | ||||||
| 5 | Rabies vaccine for use on animals shall be sold or | ||||||
| 6 | distributed only to
and used only by licensed veterinarians. | ||||||
| 7 | Such rabies vaccine shall be
licensed by the United States | ||||||
| 8 | Department of Agriculture.
| ||||||
| 9 | If a licensed veterinarian determines in writing that a | ||||||
| 10 | rabies inoculation would compromise an animal's health, then | ||||||
| 11 | the animal shall be exempt from the rabies inoculation | ||||||
| 12 | requirement, however, the owner is still responsible for the | ||||||
| 13 | tag fees. | ||||||
| 14 | If a bite occurs from an exempt animal, the exempt animal | ||||||
| 15 | shall be treated as an unvaccinated animal. If the animal is | ||||||
| 16 | exempt, the animal shall be re-examined by a licensed | ||||||
| 17 | veterinarian on no less than an annual basis and be vaccinated | ||||||
| 18 | against rabies as soon as the animal's health permits. | ||||||
