Bill Title: Amends the Illinois School Student Records Act. Provides that upon the discovery of a breach of security that results in the unauthorized release, disclosure, or acquisition of student information contained in a school student record, a school shall, no later than 48 hours after discovery, notify the parent of the student whose record is involved in the breach of security. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning education.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Illinois School Student Records Act is
5amended by adding Section 6.5 as follows:
6 (105 ILCS 10/6.5 new)
7 Sec. 6.5. Security breach. Upon the discovery of a breach
8of security that results in the unauthorized release,
9disclosure, or acquisition of student information contained in
10a school student record, a school shall, no later than 48 hours
11after discovery, notify the parent of the student whose record
12is involved in the breach of security.
13 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
14becoming law.
