Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Insurance Code. Provides that individual and group policies of accident and health insurance or managed care plans amended, delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date of the amendatory Act must provide coverage for maternity care.

| 1 | AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 119
| ||||||
| 2 | AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 119 by replacing | ||||||
| 3 | everything after the enacting clause with the following:

| 4 | "Section 5. The Illinois Insurance Code is amended by | ||||||
| 5 | adding Section 356z.19 as follows:
| ||||||
| 6 | (215 ILCS 5/356z.19 new) | ||||||
| 7 | Sec. 356z.19. Maternity care. An individual or group policy | ||||||
| 8 | of accident and health insurance or managed care plan amended, | ||||||
| 9 | delivered, issued, or renewed after the effective date of this | ||||||
| 10 | amendatory Act of the 97th General Assembly must provide | ||||||
| 11 | coverage for maternity care, including prenatal and post-natal | ||||||
| 12 | care and
care for complication of pregnancy of a mother and | ||||||
| 13 | care with respect to a newborn child from the moment of birth, | ||||||
| 14 | which shall include the care and treatment of illness, injury, | ||||||
| 15 | congenital defects, birth abnormalities, and premature birth. | ||||||
| 16 | The provisions of this Section do not apply to short-term | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | travel, accident-only, limited, or specified disease policies | ||||||
| 2 | or to policies or contracts designed for issuance to persons | ||||||
| 3 | eligible for coverage under Title XVIII of the Social Security | ||||||
| 4 | Act, known as Medicare, or any other similar coverage under | ||||||
| 5 | State or federal governmental plans.".
