| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the | ||||||
3 | Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the | ||||||
4 | death of
Jon Alexander Daye, who passed away on July 8, 2010; | ||||||
5 | and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Jon Daye was well known by many for being on the | ||||||
7 | cutting edge of new forms of media; in the early 1970s, he | ||||||
8 | began appearing on talk television, where he chose topics | ||||||
9 | regarding the African-American community at large; through his | ||||||
10 | shows, he provided a forum for black candidates, judges, | ||||||
11 | aldermen and county officials to express their message to the | ||||||
12 | community; his guests included former Chicago Mayors Harold | ||||||
13 | Washington and Eugene Sawyer; he and his shows were also | ||||||
14 | instrumental in the election of U.S. Senator Roland Burris and | ||||||
15 | Cook County Board President Todd Stroger; and

16 | WHEREAS, Jon Daye was a radio personality on WVON Radio's | ||||||
17 | "On Target"; he was a television talk show host on Star Planet | ||||||
18 | Television Network, Cable Channel 25; he was also the host of | ||||||
19 | "Straight Talk", which led to his own show, "News Talk", on | ||||||
20 | Rev. Harold Bailey's PCC Network; and

21 | WHEREAS, Jon Daye was an author and the founder and | ||||||
22 | president of several worthwhile awards, including the coveted |

1 | Kizzy Award, which recognized women for their professional | ||||||
2 | accomplishments and community service, the Success Awards, | ||||||
3 | which recognized men for their distinguished accomplishments, | ||||||
4 | and the Black Woman Hall of Fame Foundation, which recognized a | ||||||
5 | long list of women luminaries with the Bethune-Tubman Truth | ||||||
6 | Award; through his various awards programs, he reached out to | ||||||
7 | innumerable local and national "dignitaries" - recipients of | ||||||
8 | his awards; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Jon Daye is survived by his fiancee, Bernadine | ||||||
10 | Whiteurst; his daughters, Christy Robinson (Dore) and Tracy | ||||||
11 | Landing; his grandchildren; and his many other family members | ||||||
12 | and friends; therefore, be it
| ||||||
13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jon | ||||||
16 | Alexander Daye; and be it further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Jon Daye as an expression of our | ||||||
19 | sympathy.
