2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mary | ||||||
4 | Ellen Dorris of West Frankfort, who passed away on May 17, | ||||||
5 | 2016; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was born in West Frankfort to | ||||||
7 | Obed Barton and Hal (Karnes) Hayes on January 11, 1931; she | ||||||
8 | graduated from Frankfort Community High School in 1948 and | ||||||
9 | Southern Illinois University Carbondale; she married Kenneth | ||||||
10 | L. Dorris in West Frankfort on November 27, 1952; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was a dedicated teacher; she | ||||||
12 | taught at Thompsonville High School for five years and then at | ||||||
13 | West Frankfort Community High School for many years until her | ||||||
14 | retirement in 1993; she enjoyed her farm life and was always | ||||||
15 | busy managing her home and seeing to the needs of her family; | ||||||
16 | and

17 | WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was an active member of the | ||||||
18 | First Baptist Church of West Frankfort, where she was a Sunday | ||||||
19 | school teacher and served in the church nursery for many years; | ||||||
20 | she also was a supporter of the church's clothing room and | ||||||
21 | enjoyed visiting with her church family; she was well versed in | ||||||
22 | many subjects and was a natural trivia buff; she loved her |

1 | grandchildren and was always interested in all of their many | ||||||
2 | activities, always enjoying the times they shared together at | ||||||
3 | her home; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris was preceded in death by her | ||||||
5 | husband of 51 years, Kenneth, and her parents; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Dorris is survived by three sons and | ||||||
7 | daughters-in-law, Jeff and Susan Dorris, Doug and Michelle | ||||||
8 | Dorris, and Tim and Judy Dorris; her granddaughter, Megan | ||||||
9 | Dorris; her grandsons, Seth, Brock, Nathan, Jacob, and Benny | ||||||
10 | Dorris; her half-sister, Toni Lucas; her half-brother, Jim | ||||||
11 | Hayes; other extended family; and many friends; therefore, be | ||||||
12 | it

13 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
14 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
15 | mourn the passing of Mary Ellen Dorris, and extend our sincere | ||||||
16 | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
17 | her; and be it further

18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the family of Mary Ellen Dorris as an expression | ||||||
