HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It has come to the attention of the Illinois House
3of Representatives that there are a significant number of
4veterans of foreign wars, including World War II, Vietnam,
5Iraq, and Afghanistan veterans, who were legal permanent
6residents of the United States; and
7 WHEREAS, When these veterans returned to civilian life
8without appropriate support in reintegration, both
9psychologically and economically, they fell into addictions
10and criminal activities, were arrested and, due to their legal
11permanent resident status, were deported; and
12 WHEREAS, Many of these veterans live in Mexico in terrible
13and abject conditions after having served honorably in the
14Armed Forces of the United States; and
15 WHEREAS, Several of these veterans have asked for support
16in obtaining reentry into the United States to be with their
17families and United States citizen children; and
18 WHEREAS, Our nation owes these veterans adequate support
19and rehabilitation equal to that owed veterans with full
20citizenship; and

1 WHEREAS, These deported veterans represent the tragic
2results of a population under siege by the policies of mass
3deportation and mass incarceration and should be supported in
4resistance to those policies; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7bring the cases of these veterans to the attention of the
8members of Congress and to the President of the United States
9in a determined effort to win the return of these veterans to
10their families, children, and communities in the United States;
11and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13delivered to the members of the Illinois congressional
14delegation and the President.
