| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to recognize and congratulate Rebecca | ||||||
4 | Cartwright for her years of dedication and service to her | ||||||
5 | community as a Pokemon Video Game Championship (VGC) and | ||||||
6 | Trading Card Game (TCG) Tournament Organizer; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright became involved in the Pokemon | ||||||
8 | community to support her two sons, Calum and Samuel | ||||||
9 | Bruce-Cartwright, who expressed interest in playing the games | ||||||
10 | and attending organized events and tournaments; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright began hosting VGC tournaments, | ||||||
12 | and in 2014, created a Pokemon league for the Chicago area, the | ||||||
13 | Ace Trainers League; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright continued to host tournaments | ||||||
15 | over the course of several years despite her progressing | ||||||
16 | disease and her son's waning interest; she has created a | ||||||
17 | positive community and atmosphere that has fostered many | ||||||
18 | friendships and memories; and

19 | WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright established herself as a model | ||||||
20 | tournament organizer and was a mentor to new tournament | ||||||
21 | organizers, judges, and players; she encouraged players of all |

1 | ages to work together; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, At Rebecca Cartwright's tournaments, she always | ||||||
3 | encouraged and strived for a good Spirit of the Game; through | ||||||
4 | her experience in both sides of the game, she helped connect | ||||||
5 | both trading card game and video game players, opening their | ||||||
6 | eyes to other perspectives; and

7 | WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright listened to the players and | ||||||
8 | applied the feedback she received and tried to be the best | ||||||
9 | tournament organizer she could be; she put forward a tremendous | ||||||
10 | effort and continually went above and beyond expectations to | ||||||
11 | make each tournament special and unique, such as applying | ||||||
12 | themes or bringing home-baked goods to the tournaments; and

13 | WHEREAS, Rebecca Cartwright is an inspiring individual who | ||||||
14 | has made a difference and touched the lives of hundreds of | ||||||
15 | people through her tireless volunteer work as a Pokemon | ||||||
16 | tournament organizer; she has also made an extremely positive | ||||||
17 | impact on her community and State; therefore, be it

18 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
19 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
20 | recognize and congratulate Rebecca Cartwright for all her | ||||||
21 | outstanding years of service as a Pokemon tournament organizer, | ||||||
22 | judge, advocate, and friend, and for her volunteer work on |

2 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
