HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Kelly Curran, of
4 Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, on winning the
5 2009 IHSA Class 1-A State Cross Country championship and
6 becoming one of only nine female cross country athletes to
7 become a defending State Champion; and
8 WHEREAS, She became the 2008 Class 1-A State Champion with
9 a time of 17:27 for 3 miles and became State Champion Female
10 Cross Country runner again in 2009 with a winning time of
11 17:46; and
12 WHEREAS, Kelly Curran holds school records in the 800 meter
13 (2:17.37), the 1600 meter (4:55.5), and the 3200 meter
14 (11:17.32) events in track; and
15 WHEREAS, In addition, Kelly was named one of 12 national
16 finalists for the 2009 Wendy's High School Heisman award,
17 chosen from a beginning field of 54,000 high school applicants
18 from across the country; the field was narrowed to 12, with
19 Kelly being named one of 6 boys and 6 girls; and
20 WHEREAS, Kelly Curran has demonstrated outstanding
21 qualities on the athletic field as well as in the classroom,

1 where she has compiled a 4.1 grad point average on a 4.0 scale,
2 and a 34 ACT score; and
3 WHEREAS, Kelly Curran will be attending the University of
4 Notre Dame, joining her brothers, Dan and John; therefore, be
5 it
6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
7 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
8 congratulate Kelly Curran on her impressive athletic and
9 academic career and wish her continued success in the future;
10 and be it further
11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Kelly Curran as a symbol of our respect and
13 esteem.
