2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Taylor Fusinatto on being | ||||||
4 | nominated for the 2015 iCon Knowledge Builder Award; and

5 | WHEREAS, Taylor Fusinatto is currently the middle
school | ||||||
6 | science teacher and Department Chair at Dr. Bessie Rhodes | ||||||
7 | School of Global Studies with Evanston/Skokie School District | ||||||
8 | 65; she is an exceptional teacher who strives to bring science | ||||||
9 | to life
through real-world connections; and

10 | WHEREAS, Taylor Fusinatto is constantly seeking to provide | ||||||
11 | her students with access to new technologies; she established | ||||||
12 | the first Stellar Girls after-school STEM engineering program | ||||||
13 | in the
district; Stellar Girls introduces girls in grades 3 | ||||||
14 | through 8 to
current, interesting "Big Ideas" in STEM fields; | ||||||
15 | through weekly hands-on program
activities, girls explore how | ||||||
16 | science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
are used to | ||||||
17 | feed, fuel, heal, and save the world; participants also have | ||||||
18 | the
opportunity to interact with STEM professionals to learn | ||||||
19 | about STEM careers, apply
STEM skills to real-world problems, | ||||||
20 | and employ critical-thinking skills through
collaborative | ||||||
21 | inquiry; the program will be entering its third year, engaging | ||||||
22 | girls in inquiry-based engineering projects
that merge content | ||||||
23 | with ingenuity; and

1 | WHEREAS, Taylor Fusinatto has worked on educator | ||||||
2 | ambassador programs with NASA and the EPA; she has presented on | ||||||
3 | nanotechnology labs adapted for middle
school students at the | ||||||
4 | Illinois State CONNECTIONS conference and on literacy | ||||||
5 | strategies in the content
areas at the Illinois Reading Council | ||||||
6 | Conference; and

7 | WHEREAS, Taylor Fusinatto participated in a
materials | ||||||
8 | science and nanotechnology workshop at the University of | ||||||
9 | Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and acted
as a research assistant | ||||||
10 | on a nano-drug delivery system for chemothearputic medicine at | ||||||
11 | the University of
Illinois at Chicago; and

12 | WHEREAS, Taylor Fusinatto graduated summa cum laude from | ||||||
13 | Loyola University-Chicago; therefore, be it
| ||||||
14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
15 | NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
16 | congratulate Taylor Fusinatto on being nominated for the 2015 | ||||||
17 | iCon Knowledge Builder Award; and be it further
