2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Paul | ||||||
4 | Steven Gregoire, who passed away on May 21 2024; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire was born in Chicago to Edward and | ||||||
6 | Dolores Gregoire on March 14, 1960; he graduated from Kenwood | ||||||
7 | Academy High School in 1978 and earned his bachelor's and | ||||||
8 | master's degree in law enforcement administration from Calumet | ||||||
9 | College of St. Joseph; he married Jayvonne McGee in the summer | ||||||
10 | of 1991; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire served and protected the citizens | ||||||
12 | of Chicago as a member of the Chicago Police Department; his | ||||||
13 | tenure on the force began in 1986 as a patrolman, and he rose | ||||||
14 | through the ranks, first to detective in 1996 and then to | ||||||
15 | sergeant in 2004; he received numerous departmental awards and | ||||||
16 | commendations throughout his 30 years of service; and

17 | WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire's favorite pastimes were taking | ||||||
18 | walks to Cole Park, teeing off on the golf course, swimming | ||||||
19 | laps at the YMCA, and enjoying VIP status when attending | ||||||
20 | sporting events with his cousin, Billy; he was happy to be able | ||||||
21 | to travel with family and friends and especially enjoyed his | ||||||
22 | trip overseas to Dubai and Abu Dhabi; he adopted the city of |

1 | Houston as a second home and traveled there often to visit | ||||||
2 | family; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire was affectionately know as "Bear" | ||||||
4 | and was proud of the familial bond he developed with his | ||||||
5 | siblings, cousins, and close friends throughout his childhood; | ||||||
6 | he would often reminisce, retelling stories about the many | ||||||
7 | adventures he shared with his brothers and sisters; he loved | ||||||
8 | his daughters and had no greater source of pride; he found | ||||||
9 | great joy in sitting in the audience as he witnessed both of | ||||||
10 | his daughters graduate from institutions of higher learning; | ||||||
11 | he was a formidable man with a loving and compassion spirit; | ||||||
12 | and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire was preceded in death by his | ||||||
14 | parents; his brothers, Rene and Edward (Greg) Jr.; and his | ||||||
15 | sister, Aleda; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire is survived by his daughters, Alex | ||||||
17 | and Maya; his sister, Jocelyn Gregoire; his brother-cousin, | ||||||
18 | Billy Hilbring; his aunt, Helen (Ferrell) Daste; his nieces, | ||||||
19 | Tanya (Lynn) Fields, Jessica Watkins, and Simone Watkins; his | ||||||
20 | nephews, John Gregoire, Paul (Joya) Gregoire, Rene (Javon) | ||||||
21 | Gregoire, Zachary Watkins, and Carl Jackson McGee III; and | ||||||
22 | numerous cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it
