HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Paul
4Steven Gregoire, who passed away on May 21 2024; and
5 WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire was born in Chicago to Edward and
6Dolores Gregoire on March 14, 1960; he graduated from Kenwood
7Academy High School in 1978 and earned his bachelor's and
8master's degree in law enforcement administration from Calumet
9College of St. Joseph; he married Jayvonne McGee in the summer
10of 1991; and
11 WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire served and protected the citizens
12of Chicago as a member of the Chicago Police Department; his
13tenure on the force began in 1986 as a patrolman, and he rose
14through the ranks, first to detective in 1996 and then to
15sergeant in 2004; he received numerous departmental awards and
16commendations throughout his 30 years of service; and
17 WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire's favorite pastimes were taking
18walks to Cole Park, teeing off on the golf course, swimming
19laps at the YMCA, and enjoying VIP status when attending
20sporting events with his cousin, Billy; he was happy to be able
21to travel with family and friends and especially enjoyed his
22trip overseas to Dubai and Abu Dhabi; he adopted the city of

1Houston as a second home and traveled there often to visit
2family; and
3 WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire was affectionately know as "Bear"
4and was proud of the familial bond he developed with his
5siblings, cousins, and close friends throughout his childhood;
6he would often reminisce, retelling stories about the many
7adventures he shared with his brothers and sisters; he loved
8his daughters and had no greater source of pride; he found
9great joy in sitting in the audience as he witnessed both of
10his daughters graduate from institutions of higher learning;
11he was a formidable man with a loving and compassion spirit;
12and
13 WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire was preceded in death by his
14parents; his brothers, Rene and Edward (Greg) Jr.; and his
15sister, Aleda; and
16 WHEREAS, Paul Gregoire is survived by his daughters, Alex
17and Maya; his sister, Jocelyn Gregoire; his brother-cousin,
18Billy Hilbring; his aunt, Helen (Ferrell) Daste; his nieces,
19Tanya (Lynn) Fields, Jessica Watkins, and Simone Watkins; his
20nephews, John Gregoire, Paul (Joya) Gregoire, Rene (Javon)
21Gregoire, Zachary Watkins, and Carl Jackson McGee III; and
22numerous cousins, relatives, and friends; therefore, be it

2HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3we mourn the passing of Paul Steven Gregoire and extend our
4sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
