HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives wish to congratulate Neighborhood Housing
Services on 45 years of serving as advocates for economic
inclusion and working to close the racial wealth gap through
homeownership; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services believes decent,
safe, and affordable housing is a human right, part of the
American dream, and should be available to all; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services has leveraged the
expertise of many, working with residents, community
organizations, and corporate partners to renew neighborhoods
and rehabilitate homes throughout the entire Chicago
metropolitan area and Cook County; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services helps first-time
homebuyers through homebuyer education, down payment
assistance programs, and affordable mortgage options; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services provides support
and financial guidance to those suffering under the crushing
burden of student loan debt; and

WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services is committed to
helping working families strengthen their neighborhoods
through community building, real estate development, and
housing policy; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services realizes that many
have suffered due to discriminatory practices and imbalanced
lending practices, particularly in some of the most challenged
areas, and that these practices contribute significantly to the
persistent racial wealth gap that Neighborhood Housing
Services seeks to eliminate; and
WHEREAS, Housing quality serves as a visual and tangible
indicator of the health of a community and represents one of
the largest assets a neighborhood can cultivate and develop;
and
WHEREAS, Homeownership brings stability to neighborhoods
decimated by decades of divestment; and
WHEREAS, Neighborhood Housing Services is at the forefront
of creating the next generation of affordable single family
homes designed to accommodate the ever-changing needs of
today's families while being conscious of the environmental
responsibilities and challenges of the future; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we congratulate Neighborhood Housing Services on 45 years of
advocating for economic inclusion and working to close the
racial wealth gap through home ownership, and we wish them many
more successful years; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to Neighborhood Housing Services as a symbol of our
respect and esteem.
