2 | WHEREAS, For over a decade, GEO Reentry Services has | ||||||
3 | hosted a community resource fair at its West Fulton Reentry | ||||||
4 | Service Center in Chicago to help justice-involved individuals | ||||||
5 | returning to society; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, GEO Reentry Services has partnered with the | ||||||
7 | Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and the Illinois | ||||||
8 | Department of Public Health (IDPH)to host this community | ||||||
9 | resource fair under IDOC and IDPH's Summit of Hope community | ||||||
10 | expo program; and

11 | WHEREAS, The Summit of Hope program brings together local | ||||||
12 | social service providers to create a one-stop environment for | ||||||
13 | parolees and probationers to obtain necessary assistance to | ||||||
14 | move past barriers that can prevent an individual from leading | ||||||
15 | a successful life; and

16 | WHEREAS, The Summit of Hope, hosted by GEO Reentry | ||||||
17 | Services' West Fulton Reentry Service Center, has grown to | ||||||
18 | over 65 partnering organizations and vendors providing a | ||||||
19 | variety of services to returning citizens; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, GEO Reentry Services' West Fulton Reentry Service | ||||||
21 | Center's Summit of Hope focuses on assisting returning |

1 | citizens by providing services for substance abuse prevention, | ||||||
2 | anger management treatment, employment readiness, housing | ||||||
3 | access, HIV testing, domestic violence prevention, cognitive | ||||||
4 | behavioral therapy, and acquiring state identification; and

5 | WHEREAS, Reentry services provide individuals returning | ||||||
6 | from incarceration critical services to transition | ||||||
7 | productively back into society, helping reduce barriers to | ||||||
8 | employment, preventing homelessness, improving health | ||||||
9 | concerns, and improving public safety by reducing behaviors | ||||||
10 | that can lead to recidivism and reincarceration; and

11 | WHEREAS, GEO Reentry Services' West Fulton Reentry Service | ||||||
12 | Center's 2024 Summit of Hope is scheduled for May 8, 2024 and | ||||||
13 | is expected to serve nearly 500 returning citizens to help | ||||||
14 | them obtain the assistance to move past involvement in the | ||||||
15 | justice system; therefore, be it

16 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
17 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
18 | we commend GEO Reentry Services' West Fulton Reentry Service | ||||||
19 | Center for its dedicated work to ensure successful transitions | ||||||
20 | back into society for people involved in the justice system in | ||||||
21 | order to live productive and safe lives; and be it further
