| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mattie M. | ||||||
| 4 | Levy Brown, who passed away on December 1, 2017; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Mattie Brown was born in McDowell,
Alabama to Joe | ||||||
| 6 | and Genie Levy on May 29, 1928; she was a member of the | ||||||
| 7 | Palestine Baptist Church in Coatopa, Alabama and graduated from | ||||||
| 8 | the Sumter County Training School in Livingston, Alabama; she | ||||||
| 9 | married Frank
Brown Sr. on August 5, 1950
and they briefly | ||||||
| 10 | resided in Epes, Alabama before moving to Chicago; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Mattie Brown was a member of the Friendship | ||||||
| 12 | Baptist Church for over 60 years, where she was part of the | ||||||
| 13 | Contemporary Sunday School Class and Missionary Society; she | ||||||
| 14 | was an active member of her
Kirkland Avenue Block Club and | ||||||
| 15 | believed in the power of voting; she enjoyed cooking, making | ||||||
| 16 | Hog-Head Cheese from scratch for the
new year and homemade ice | ||||||
| 17 | cream; she had a passion for reading and teaching her | ||||||
| 18 | grandchildren how to read; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, Mattie Brown was preceded in death by her parents; | ||||||
| 20 | her husband, Frank
Brown Sr.; her son, Frank Brown Jr.; her | ||||||
| 21 | brothers, Ellis Sr., Curtis, Fred, and Edward
Sr.; and her | ||||||
| 22 | sisters, Gertrude, Louise, and Mary Lou; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Mattie Brown is survived by her children, Carrie | ||||||
| 2 | Brown Billups (John), Maxine Brown-Lockhart, Maretta | ||||||

| 4 | Jones Brown;
her grandchildren, Deidre, Burgundy, Cinnamon, | ||||||

| 6 | Justin, and Starry; her great-grandchildren, Shawn Jr., Nylah, | ||||||

| 8 | Terrance Jr., and Cayden; her sisters-in-law, Leona Brown | ||||||

nephews, and friends; therefore, be it

| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 12 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
| 13 | mourn the passing of Mattie M. Levy Brown, and extend our | ||||||
| 14 | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
| 15 | and loved her; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | presented to the family of Mattie Brown as an expression of our | ||||||
| 18 | deepest sympathy.
