HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Governor Bruce Rauner is responsible for filling
the three vacancies that occurred on the University of Illinois
Board of Trustees as members cycled off in the fall of 2016;
and
WHEREAS, Governor Rauner has filled two of the three
vacancies with one Democrat and one Republican and has the
opportunity to appoint one more Democrat; and
WHEREAS, The University of Illinois Board of Trustees
oversees three campuses, Urbana-Champaign, Chicago, and
Springfield; these campuses attract a diverse group of students
from all over the world; and
WHEREAS, The University of Illinois Board of Trustees
currently has only one woman on the board, and no women of
color; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
strongly urge Governor Bruce Rauner to make appointments that
honor diversity and reflect the gender and racial makeup of our
State as he contemplates who he will select to fill vacant
positions on the University of Illinois Board of Trustees; and
