| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of | ||||||
4 | Lieutenant Aaron R. Landers of St. Joseph, who passed away on | ||||||
5 | August 22, 2021; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Lt. Landers served as a police officer for the | ||||||
7 | University of Illinois Police Department and the campus | ||||||
8 | community for 24 years; he was named supervisor of the | ||||||
9 | department's new Community Outreach and Support Team in 2020, | ||||||
10 | which is tasked with providing educational programming for the | ||||||
11 | campus community, support resources, community engagement, and | ||||||
12 | mental health crisis intervention; he also served on the | ||||||
13 | University of Illinois Bomb Squad and was recently appointed | ||||||
14 | its commander; and

15 | WHEREAS, Lt. Landers recently acquired K-9 Winston, a | ||||||
16 | therapy dog with the University of Illinois Police Department; | ||||||
17 | together, they traveled to Chicago to provide comfort to | ||||||
18 | members of the Chicago Police Department following the | ||||||
19 | line-of-duty death of Chicago Police Officer Ella French; they | ||||||
20 | visited the Champaign Police Department several times earlier | ||||||
21 | this year following the line-of-duty death of Champaign Police | ||||||
22 | Officer Chris Oberheim; and

1 | WHEREAS, Lt. Landers earned several awards throughout his | ||||||
2 | career, including two life-saving awards, the Excellence in | ||||||
3 | Community Policing Award, and the Director of Public Safety | ||||||
4 | Recognition Award; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lt. Landers was an avid bicyclist and rode in the | ||||||
6 | annual Cycle Across Illinois event to benefit the Concerns of | ||||||
7 | Police Survivors (COPS) nonprofit organization; he completed | ||||||
8 | this year's 340-mile ride through the state in July; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Lt. Landers was a dedicated public servant; he | ||||||
10 | will be remembered for his character, his optimism, and his | ||||||
11 | service to the community; therefore, be it
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
13 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
14 | we mourn the passing of Lieutenant Aaron R. Landers and extend | ||||||
15 | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who | ||||||
16 | knew and loved him; and be it further

17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
18 | presented to the family of Lt. Landers as an expression of our | ||||||
19 | deepest sympathy.
