| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated was | ||||||
| 3 | founded in 1911 at Howard University
and became the first | ||||||
| 4 | international fraternal organization to be founded at a | ||||||
| 5 | historically black
college; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Omega Psi Phi's mission is to uplift the | ||||||
| 7 | community through outreach programs,
health initiatives, | ||||||
| 8 | scholarship funds, mentorship programs, educational programs, | ||||||
| 9 | and more; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, The Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi | ||||||
| 11 | Fraternity, Incorporated was founded
in 1921 in Chicago and | ||||||
| 12 | consisted of Omega men that came to Chicago to pursue post
| ||||||
| 13 | graduate degrees; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The Sigma Omega Chapter upholds the values of | ||||||
| 15 | Omega Psi Phi through
community outreach and philanthropy, | ||||||
| 16 | including involved programming, through their signature Mardi
| ||||||
| 17 | Gras event to raise funds for scholarships, and through the | ||||||
| 18 | Sigma Omega Foundation; and
| ||||||
| 19 | WHEREAS, On September 16, 2023, the Sigma Omega Chapter | ||||||
| 20 | will hold their centennial gala
and bring together members to | ||||||
| 21 | celebrate the impact that the chapter has had on the City of
| ||||||

| 1 | Chicago and Omega Psi Phi, recognize those that have made a | ||||||
| 2 | difference, and look ahead to the
future; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 3 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 4 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 5 | we declare September 16, 2023 as Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega | ||||||
| 6 | Psi Phi
Fraternity, Incorporated Day in the State of Illinois | ||||||
| 7 | and encourage all residents to come together to recognize the | ||||||
| 8 | fraternity's ongoing service; and be it further
| ||||||
| 9 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 10 | presented to the Sigma Omega Chapter of Omega Psi Phi
| ||||||
| 11 | Fraternity, Incorporated as a symbol of our respect and | ||||||
| 12 | esteem.
