HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald
4"Don" Lee Jacobs of East Moline, who passed away February 21,
52021; and
6 WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was born to Oral "Jake" and Caroline
7"Ma Jake" Jacobs in Moline on October 9, 1931; he graduated
8from United Township High School; he served as a staff
9sergeant in Germany during the Korean War; he married Wanda
10Smith in Moline on May 19, 1951; and
11 WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was part owner of J&J Music Co. in
12Moline; his company offered pinball, pool tables, and
13jukeboxes to many area thirst aid stations and eateries; and
14 WHEREAS, The son of a six-term state representative, Don
15Jacobs had a long political career; he served as a precinct
16committeeman, an East Moline alderman for nine years, a Rock
17Island County auditor for 21 years, and a Rock Island County
18finance chairman; he retired from Rock Island County at age
1985; uniquely suited for public service, he knew how to run a
20business, understood the workings of politics, and could
21relate to and work with all, no matter the political party; and

1 WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was a member of East Moline American
2Legion Post 227 and VFW Post 2153; and
3 WHEREAS, Don Jacobs enjoyed growing roses; he was
4refreshingly honest, conscientious, and forever thorough; if
5you needed help, he provided as much for you as he could; he
6loved spending time with his family, especially his
7grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he leaves a legacy of
8decency, of care and compassion, and of common sense and
9service and will quite simply be remembered as one of the best;
10and
11 WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was preceded in death by his parents
12and his grandson, Josh Jacobs; and
13 WHEREAS, Don Jacobs is survived by his wife of nearly 70
14years, Wanda; his children, Diana (David) Kelley, Lonnie
15(Barb) Jacobs, Tamara (Dick) Rogenski, and Lorna (Joe) Moreno;
16his grandchildren, Shane, Shawna, Jason, Jared, Lindsey, Tara,
17Keri, Kylie, Anthony, Zachary, Michael, Stefnie, and Ryan; his
1822 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gloria Goebel and Denny
19(Mary Ellen) Jacobs; and his many nieces and nephews;
20therefore, be it
21 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OR REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
22HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1we mourn the passing of Donald "Don" Lee Jacobs and extend our
2sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
3and loved him; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Don Jacobs as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
