2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Donald | ||||||
4 | "Don" Lee Jacobs of East Moline, who passed away February 21, | ||||||
5 | 2021; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was born to Oral "Jake" and Caroline | ||||||
7 | "Ma Jake" Jacobs in Moline on October 9, 1931; he graduated | ||||||
8 | from United Township High School; he served as a staff | ||||||
9 | sergeant in Germany during the Korean War; he married Wanda | ||||||
10 | Smith in Moline on May 19, 1951; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was part owner of J&J Music Co. in | ||||||
12 | Moline; his company offered pinball, pool tables, and | ||||||
13 | jukeboxes to many area thirst aid stations and eateries; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, The son of a six-term state representative, Don | ||||||
15 | Jacobs had a long political career; he served as a precinct | ||||||
16 | committeeman, an East Moline alderman for nine years, a Rock | ||||||
17 | Island County auditor for 21 years, and a Rock Island County | ||||||
18 | finance chairman; he retired from Rock Island County at age | ||||||
19 | 85; uniquely suited for public service, he knew how to run a | ||||||
20 | business, understood the workings of politics, and could | ||||||
21 | relate to and work with all, no matter the political party; and

1 | WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was a member of East Moline American | ||||||
2 | Legion Post 227 and VFW Post 2153; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Don Jacobs enjoyed growing roses; he was | ||||||
4 | refreshingly honest, conscientious, and forever thorough; if | ||||||
5 | you needed help, he provided as much for you as he could; he | ||||||
6 | loved spending time with his family, especially his | ||||||
7 | grandchildren and great-grandchildren; he leaves a legacy of | ||||||
8 | decency, of care and compassion, and of common sense and | ||||||
9 | service and will quite simply be remembered as one of the best; | ||||||
10 | and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Don Jacobs was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
12 | and his grandson, Josh Jacobs; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Don Jacobs is survived by his wife of nearly 70 | ||||||
14 | years, Wanda; his children, Diana (David) Kelley, Lonnie | ||||||
15 | (Barb) Jacobs, Tamara (Dick) Rogenski, and Lorna (Joe) Moreno; | ||||||
16 | his grandchildren, Shane, Shawna, Jason, Jared, Lindsey, Tara, | ||||||
17 | Keri, Kylie, Anthony, Zachary, Michael, Stefnie, and Ryan; his | ||||||
18 | 22 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Gloria Goebel and Denny | ||||||
19 | (Mary Ellen) Jacobs; and his many nieces and nephews; | ||||||
20 | therefore, be it

21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OR REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
22 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |

1 | we mourn the passing of Donald "Don" Lee Jacobs and extend our | ||||||
2 | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | ||||||
3 | and loved him; and be it further

4 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
5 | presented to the family of Don Jacobs as an expression of our | ||||||
6 | deepest sympathy.
