2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Oak Lawn Chief of | ||||||
4 | Police, William V. Villanova Jr., as he retires from his | ||||||
5 | position; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, William Villanova Jr. began his law enforcement | ||||||
7 | career in 1977 as a patrol officer with the Oak Lawn Police | ||||||
8 | Department; he also served as Evidence Technician and Field | ||||||
9 | Training Officer until transferring to the Detective Division | ||||||
10 | in 1989; he earned the rank of sergeant, was selected to be a | ||||||
11 | team leader of the South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force, and | ||||||
12 | achieved the rank of lieutenant in 2003; in 2004, he was | ||||||
13 | appointed chief of detectives and then chief of police in 2006; | ||||||
14 | and

15 | WHEREAS, William Villanova Jr. has been honored with | ||||||
16 | numerous awards and commendations throughout the years; in | ||||||
17 | 1979, he received the first Department Commendation under the | ||||||
18 | newly developed Oak Lawn Police Awards program; in 1992, he | ||||||
19 | received the Oak Lawn Police John Murdoch Memorial Award as the | ||||||
20 | Police Officer of the Year and in 1997 he received the Cook | ||||||
21 | County Sheriff Law Enforcement Award of Merit and the Veterans | ||||||
22 | of Foreign Wars Post 5220 Police Office of the Year; in 2002, | ||||||
23 | the DEA Administrator awarded him and his tactical/narcotics |

1 | team with the Administrator's Award for Outstanding | ||||||
2 | Contributions to Drug Law Enforcement for their work in | ||||||
3 | Operation Mountain Express III and most recently in 2012, he | ||||||
4 | was named the Illinois State Crime Commission's Police Chief of | ||||||
5 | the Year; and

6 | WHEREAS, William Villanova Jr. has served on the boards of | ||||||
7 | the Oak Lawn Police Club, the 5th District Chiefs Association, | ||||||
8 | and the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police, | ||||||
9 | including time as president; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, William Villanova Jr. graduated from Northwestern | ||||||
11 | University's School of Police Staff and Command in 2000 and | ||||||
12 | attended Lewis University; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, William Villanova Jr. has been married to his | ||||||
14 | wife, Linda, for 39 years; they have 3 children, Ken | ||||||
15 | (Vennessa), Kate (Sergio), and Chris; and 5 grandchildren, | ||||||
16 | Emily, Erin, Abby, Noah, Nolan; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
19 | we congratulate Oak Lawn Chief of Police, William V. Villanova | ||||||
20 | Jr., as he retires from his position, thank him for his service | ||||||
21 | to the community, and wish him all the best in his future | ||||||
22 | endeavours; and be it further
