| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to recognize Deputy Luke Durre of Clay | ||||||
| 4 | County for his bravery in the line of duty on March 13th, 2023; | ||||||
| 5 | and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, At approximately 4:32 p.m. on March 13, 2023, | ||||||
| 7 | Deputy Durre was on routine patrol in the area of North State | ||||||
| 8 | Road and Hardy Hills Road; he observed a gold Chevrolet Impala | ||||||
| 9 | stuck in the ditch on the south side of the road facing west; | ||||||
| 10 | when he approached the car, he noticed that smoke was coming | ||||||
| 11 | from the car, which was still running, and the driver, a 78 | ||||||
| 12 | year old male, was still pushing on the accelerator, causing | ||||||
| 13 | the motor to rev at high RPMs; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Deputy Durre was able to get the car in park and | ||||||
| 15 | then shut off the engine; the vehicle was filling up with smoke | ||||||
| 16 | and was in a position where the driver's side door was pinned | ||||||
| 17 | against the ground and would only open a few inches; the | ||||||
| 18 | passenger's side door was blocked by personal belongings the | ||||||
| 19 | driver had in the vehicle; a short time later, flames began to | ||||||
| 20 | emerge from underneath the vehicle; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Deputy Durre attempted to pull the driver out of | ||||||
| 22 | the car through the driver's side window but was unable to do | ||||||

| 1 | so; he was able to pry the door open with assistance from | ||||||
| 2 | Deputy Trevin Smith and North Clay Fireman Weston Kemmerer, | ||||||
| 3 | lift the driver out the vehicle, and carry the driver to | ||||||
| 4 | safety, who was then transported to a nearby hospital for | ||||||
| 5 | treatment; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Deputy Durre's actions and direct intervention | ||||||
| 7 | were instrumental in saving and preserving the driver's life; | ||||||
| 8 | therefore, be it

| 9 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 10 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 11 | we recognize Deputy Luke Durre of Clay County for his heroic | ||||||
| 12 | actions on March 13th, 2023; and be it further
| ||||||
| 13 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 14 | presented to Deputy Luke Durre as an expression of our esteem | ||||||
| 15 | and respect.
