2 | WHEREAS, The cost of prescription drugs has become | ||||||
3 | prohibitive for many people in the United States; and
| ||||||
4 | WHEREAS, The cost of prescription drugs continues to climb | ||||||
5 | in the United States; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, People who cannot afford the high cost of | ||||||
7 | prescription drugs may have to make the difficult decision to | ||||||
8 | forgo purchasing their medications in order to put food on | ||||||
9 | their dinner table or to pay for their housing; and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, The profits of the pharmaceutical companies | ||||||
11 | already measures in the billions and continues to rise; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The federal government has been able to use its | ||||||
13 | purchasing power to reduce the price of prescription drugs | ||||||
14 | through the Veterans Administration system; therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
17 | urge the federal government to monitor the ever-increasing | ||||||
18 | costs of prescription drugs and to take any necessary action to | ||||||
19 | reduce the out-of-pocket expenses for those purchasing | ||||||
20 | medications; and be it further
