HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Mildred
4L. DeShasor of Chicago, who passed away on January 29, 2011;
5and
6 WHEREAS, She was born on January 1, 1919 in Troy, Alabama,
7the daughter of Abraham and Lily DeShasor; she moved to Chicago
8in 1931; she graduated from Douglas Elementary School and
9Wendall Phillips High School; she attended DuPage College,
10where she received her certification as a Radiological
11Technologist; and
12 WHEREAS, She was employed at LaRabeida Children's Hospital
13for 30 years, retiring in 1980; and
14 WHEREAS, She married George A. Davis in 1942; she was a
15follower of Christ and converted to Catholicism at the age of
1634; she was baptized and confirmed at Holy Angels Catholic
17Church in 1951; she later attended St. Joachim Church, where
18she joined the Women's Guild and served on the executive board
19of the Guild for 26 years; and
20 WHEREAS, She was a member of the Chesterfield Community
21Council in the early 60s, serving on the governing board for

1over 32 years; she volunteered at Chicago State University for
25 years; and she was the block president of 400 East 88th Place
3for 18 years; and
4 WHEREAS, She was a member of the Committee to organize the
5Happy Action Seniors Club, where she held offices as
6Vice-President, President, Treasurer, Program Chair, and
7delegate to the Metro Seniors in Action; she was also a board
8member and chair of the Outreach Committee of Metro Seniors;
9and
10 WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her
11siblings; her grandchildren, Leticicia Kees-Booker, Kenneth
12Marshall, and Jeffry DeShasor; and her nephews, Arthur DeShasor
13Jr. and Billy DeShasor; and
14 WHEREAS, Mildred DeShasor is survived by her children,
15Marie Jenkins and Bruce Anthony "Tony" DeShasor; her
16grandchildren, Lucious Kees Jr., Derrick Kees, Stephanie
17(Victor) Peel, Michelle (Anthony) Graham, Bruce Andre
18DeShasor, and Jermal DeShasor; numerous great-grandchildren
19and great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; her
20cousins and other relatives; and her many friends; therefore,
21be it
22 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
3Mildred DeShasor; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Mildred DeShasor as a symbol of our
6sincere sympathy.
