| 2 | WHEREAS, Future Teachers of America clubs are designed for | ||||||
| 3 | students to accentuate a passion for teaching and learning, to | ||||||
| 4 | discuss relevant topics regarding the field of education, to | ||||||
| 5 | connect with mentors, local resources, and opportunities, to | ||||||
| 6 | gain great leadership and communication skills, to learn about | ||||||
| 7 | careers in education, and to develop a positive self-concept; | ||||||
| 8 | and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Future Teachers of America clubs strive to | ||||||
| 10 | interest students in the
field of education by providing | ||||||
| 11 | information about careers in education and opportunities to | ||||||
| 12 | participate in experiences that develop the qualities and | ||||||
| 13 | skills
essential for successful teaching; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, The recruitment of students from all ethnic, | ||||||
| 15 | cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds is emphasized by | ||||||
| 16 | Future Teachers of America clubs; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Future Teachers of America clubs encourage all | ||||||
| 18 | students to strive for academic excellence,
to model | ||||||
| 19 | appropriate classroom behavior, and to develop a positive | ||||||
| 20 | self-concept; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Future Teachers of America clubs strive to | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | enhance school improvement
by fostering a greater appreciation | ||||||
| 2 | for teaching and learning, by assisting students, teachers, | ||||||
| 3 | administrators, and other school personnel with
school-related | ||||||
| 4 | activities,
and by encouraging members to be positive role | ||||||
| 5 | models; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Future Teachers of America clubs promote a | ||||||
| 7 | positive image of the
teaching profession by encouraging | ||||||
| 8 | parent and community involvement in school activities,
| ||||||
| 9 | encouraging student involvement in the community, and | ||||||
| 10 | encouraging business and school partnerships; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Future Teachers of America clubs can strive to | ||||||
| 12 | inform members,
advisors, and administrators of the growing | ||||||
| 13 | demand for qualified teachers in Illinois; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 15 | HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 16 | we urge schools across the state to pursue starting Future | ||||||
| 17 | Teachers of America clubs.
