HOUSE RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Randy
Crumpton of Chicago, who passed away on January 14, 2019 at the
age of 53; and
WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton grew up on Chicago's Southside; he
attended Percy L. Julian High School and began his higher
education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; while
there, he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated; he
later earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of
Illinois at Chicago; he received his Juris Doctorate from the
University of Iowa College of Law; and
WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton built a reputation as one of
Chicago's go-to lawyers in several specialty areas; his work in
the justice system included serving as a court-appointed
attorney in the Child Protection Division; he also handled
complex civil litigation, criminal matters, election law
cases, and entertainment law; and
WHEREAS, Over the last decade, Randy Crumpton served as a
board member of the Chicago International Film Festival and as
chair of the festival's Black Perspectives Committee; he was
also an ambassador and contributor to the American Black Film

Festival; he worked with nonprofits from the Stedman Graham
Foundation to collaborate on honoring some of the best and
brightest in Black cinema and entertainment; he produced
award-winning short films, including The Truth and Little K,
and helped co-found the Frankie Knuckles Foundation in an
effort to continue the producer's legacy; currently, he was
working on his third annual Happy Birthday Langston Hughes - A
Celebration in Poetry, Prose, and Song; he was dedicated to
nurturing African American talent and passionate about
connecting people; he was quiet, approachable, and loved by
many; and
WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton is survived by his sister, Betty,
and his brothers, Jerome, Cornell, Clarence, and Ray;
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
we mourn the passing of Randy Crumpton and extend our sincere
condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
presented to the family of Randy Crumpton as an expression of
our deepest sympathy.
