HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Randy
4Crumpton of Chicago, who passed away on January 14, 2019 at the
5age of 53; and
6 WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton grew up on Chicago's Southside; he
7attended Percy L. Julian High School and began his higher
8education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; while
9there, he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated; he
10later earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of
11Illinois at Chicago; he received his Juris Doctorate from the
12University of Iowa College of Law; and
13 WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton built a reputation as one of
14Chicago's go-to lawyers in several specialty areas; his work in
15the justice system included serving as a court-appointed
16attorney in the Child Protection Division; he also handled
17complex civil litigation, criminal matters, election law
18cases, and entertainment law; and
19 WHEREAS, Over the last decade, Randy Crumpton served as a
20board member of the Chicago International Film Festival and as
21chair of the festival's Black Perspectives Committee; he was
22also an ambassador and contributor to the American Black Film

1Festival; he worked with nonprofits from the Stedman Graham
2Foundation to collaborate on honoring some of the best and
3brightest in Black cinema and entertainment; he produced
4award-winning short films, including The Truth and Little K,
5and helped co-found the Frankie Knuckles Foundation in an
6effort to continue the producer's legacy; currently, he was
7working on his third annual Happy Birthday Langston Hughes - A
8Celebration in Poetry, Prose, and Song; he was dedicated to
9nurturing African American talent and passionate about
10connecting people; he was quiet, approachable, and loved by
11many; and
12 WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton is survived by his sister, Betty,
13and his brothers, Jerome, Cornell, Clarence, and Ray;
14therefore, be it
15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we mourn the passing of Randy Crumpton and extend our sincere
18condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
19him; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21presented to the family of Randy Crumpton as an expression of
22our deepest sympathy.
