2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Randy | ||||||
4 | Crumpton of Chicago, who passed away on January 14, 2019 at the | ||||||
5 | age of 53; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton grew up on Chicago's Southside; he | ||||||
7 | attended Percy L. Julian High School and began his higher | ||||||
8 | education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville; while | ||||||
9 | there, he pledged Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated; he | ||||||
10 | later earned his bachelor of arts degree from the University of | ||||||
11 | Illinois at Chicago; he received his Juris Doctorate from the | ||||||
12 | University of Iowa College of Law; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton built a reputation as one of | ||||||
14 | Chicago's go-to lawyers in several specialty areas; his work in | ||||||
15 | the justice system included serving as a court-appointed | ||||||
16 | attorney in the Child Protection Division; he also handled | ||||||
17 | complex civil litigation, criminal matters, election law | ||||||
18 | cases, and entertainment law; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Over the last decade, Randy Crumpton served as a | ||||||
20 | board member of the Chicago International Film Festival and as | ||||||
21 | chair of the festival's Black Perspectives Committee; he was | ||||||
22 | also an ambassador and contributor to the American Black Film |

1 | Festival; he worked with nonprofits from the Stedman Graham | ||||||
2 | Foundation to collaborate on honoring some of the best and | ||||||
3 | brightest in Black cinema and entertainment; he produced | ||||||
4 | award-winning short films, including The Truth and Little K, | ||||||
5 | and helped co-found the Frankie Knuckles Foundation in an | ||||||
6 | effort to continue the producer's legacy; currently, he was | ||||||
7 | working on his third annual Happy Birthday Langston Hughes - A | ||||||
8 | Celebration in Poetry, Prose, and Song; he was dedicated to | ||||||
9 | nurturing African American talent and passionate about | ||||||
10 | connecting people; he was quiet, approachable, and loved by | ||||||
11 | many; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Randy Crumpton is survived by his sister, Betty, | ||||||
13 | and his brothers, Jerome, Cornell, Clarence, and Ray; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
16 | HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
17 | we mourn the passing of Randy Crumpton and extend our sincere | ||||||
18 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
19 | him; and be it further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Randy Crumpton as an expression of | ||||||
22 | our deepest sympathy.
