1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous | ||||||
3 | system disorder that affects movement; symptoms start | ||||||
4 | gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor | ||||||
5 | in just one hand; additional symptoms may include slowed | ||||||
6 | movement, rigid muscles, impaired posture and balance, loss of | ||||||
7 | automatic movements, speech changes, and writing changes; and

8 | WHEREAS, The signs and symptoms of Parkinson's disease can | ||||||
9 | be different for everyone; early signs may be mild and go | ||||||
10 | unnoticed; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, The cause of Parkinson's disease is unknown, and | ||||||
12 | therefore, proven ways to prevent the disease also remain a | ||||||
13 | mystery; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Approximately 60,000 Americans are diagnosed with | ||||||
15 | Parkinson's disease each year, and an estimated 7 to 10 | ||||||
16 | million people are living with the disease worldwide; and

17 | WHEREAS, Although Parkinson's disease cannot be cured, | ||||||
18 | medications might significantly improve one's symptoms; early | ||||||
19 | detection is key; therefore, be it

20 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |

1 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
2 | we declare April 2021 as Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month | ||||||
3 | in the State of Illinois to bring attention to those battling | ||||||
4 | Parkinson's and to the importance of early detection and | ||||||
5 | treatments.
