| 2 | WHEREAS, According to the World Health Organization, 1.1 | ||||||
| 3 | billion people do not have access to safe water supplies, 2.6 | ||||||
| 4 | billion people do not have access to improved sanitation, and | ||||||
| 5 | 3.1 million children die each year from water-related diseases; | ||||||
| 6 | and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, All people and all countries are impacted by | ||||||
| 8 | access to water and sanitation; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Plumbing is vital to global health and improved | ||||||
| 10 | quality of life; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Plumbers play an important role in ensuring the | ||||||
| 12 | safety of the citizens of Illinois and all people; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Water conservation is critical in helping to | ||||||
| 14 | ensure access to water in the future; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, The United Nations has set a goal to reduce by | ||||||
| 16 | half the number of people without access to safe drinking water | ||||||
| 17 | and basic sanitation by 2015; and
| ||||||
| 18 | WHEREAS, Increased education and awareness of water and | ||||||
| 19 | sanitation issues are needed; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, The World Plumbing Council is an organization | ||||||
| 2 | comprised of plumbing industry professionals around the globe; | ||||||
| 3 | and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The World Plumbing Council has designated March | ||||||
| 5 | 11, 2011 as World Plumbing Day to help the general public | ||||||
| 6 | better understand the vital role the plumbing industry plays in | ||||||
| 7 | protecting public health and safety, the extent to which it | ||||||
| 8 | helps limit mankind's environmental footprint, and the other | ||||||
| 9 | important work performed by contractors, inspectors, | ||||||
| 10 | installers, engineers, and manufacturers that is often taken | ||||||
| 11 | for granted; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
| 13 | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we designate March 11, 2011 as "World Plumbing Day" in the | ||||||
| 15 | State of Illinois; and be it further
| ||||||
| 16 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 17 | delivered to the World Plumbing Council as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 18 | respect and esteem.
