2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
3 | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Elizabeth Arts on | ||||||
4 | being named the Western Springs 2008 Woman of the Year; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, After her two daughters and son were married | ||||||
6 | within a
three-year period, Elizabeth was ready for a new | ||||||
7 | project, the Ekdahl House; she led a team of Historical Society | ||||||
8 | trustees in the
development of a plan to save, move, and | ||||||
9 | restore the 1887 Ekdahl building as an outdoor community | ||||||
10 | museum; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, With her talent
for organizing, she was able to | ||||||
12 | convince not only the Historical Society trustees that the | ||||||
13 | building should be saved but also the
Village Board to locate | ||||||
14 | the building on Village-owned property; Elizabeth has been a | ||||||
15 | member of the Historical Society for ten years and chaired the | ||||||
16 | Preservation Awards Committee; she redesigned the
program and | ||||||
17 | evaluation process, secured the sponsorship of the Doings | ||||||
18 | newspaper, and planned the awards receptions; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Elizabeth is on the Women's Board of the Mercy | ||||||
20 | Home for Girls and Boys,
which promotes education and | ||||||
21 | scholarships for young people; with Easter Seals of Metro | ||||||
22 | Chicago, she has helped coordinate a
program between autistic |

1 | children at the Therapeutic School for Autism Research and a | ||||||
2 | Chicago charter school stressing career
opportunities; another | ||||||
3 | project was a socialization program between higher functioning | ||||||
4 | autistic boys and 7th and 8th grade boys; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, During the 35 years that she and her husband, | ||||||
6 | Dave, have lived in Western Springs, she has been a Girl Scout | ||||||
7 | leader, a Little
League team mother, a CCD teacher at St. John | ||||||
8 | of the Cross, co-chair of the St. John's Health Committee, and | ||||||
9 | a volunteer in their
program to visit the elderly; she serves | ||||||
10 | as a reading mother to the Cayman International School, where | ||||||
11 | her daughter and
family reside, via Skype; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, She was raised in New York and met her husband | ||||||
13 | while she attended St. Francis University in Joliet; she is a | ||||||
14 | registered nurse and earned her master's and Ph.D. in clinical | ||||||
15 | psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology | ||||||
16 | in Chicago; therefore, be it

17 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | ||||||
18 | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | ||||||
19 | congratulate Elizabeth Arts and wish her the best in her future | ||||||
20 | endeavors; and be it further
| ||||||
21 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
22 | presented to Elizabeth Arts as a symbol of our respect.
