HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are
3saddened to learn of the death of Ken Christy, who passed away
4on March 26, 2016; and
5 WHEREAS, Ken Christy was born in Chicago on September 18,
61944 and grew up in Bellwood; he graduated from Proviso West
7High School and attended Triton College, DePaul University, and
8the University of Illinois; he was a resident of Aurora for 39
9years; and
10 WHEREAS, Ken Christy worked as a letter carrier in Aurora
11for 31 years until his retirement in 2011; prior to becoming a
12letter carrier, he worked in retail management for a national
13grocery store chain; and
14 WHEREAS, Ken Christy served as president for the local
15National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 219 in Aurora, a
16position that he held for 25 years; he continued his work as an
17advocate for letter carriers as president of the Illinois State
18Association of Letter Carriers until his passing; and
19 WHEREAS, As president of the National Association of Letter
20Carriers Branch 219 and the Illinois State Association of
21Letter Carriers, Ken Christy prioritized the letter carriers'

1annual food drive "Stamp Out Hunger" and support for the
2Muscular Dystrophy Association; he was also known for working
3tirelessly in his lobbying efforts on behalf of the union; and
4 WHEREAS, In 2012, Ken Christy was elected to the Illinois
5Hall of Fame for Letter Carriers in honor of his work; he was
6also awarded the Kane County Democrat Harry S. Truman Award in
72012; and
8 WHEREAS, Ken Christy is survived by his wife of 52 years,
9Bonnie; his three daughters; and his five grandchildren; and
10 WHEREAS, The members of the General Assembly believe that
11it would be fitting and proper for the United States government
12to honor the life and work of Ken Christy by renaming the Post
13Office Building in Aurora after him; therefore, be it
14 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
16SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we urge Congress to pass
17legislation to rename the Post Office Building in Aurora in
18honor of Ken Christy and his work in representing National
19Association of Letter Carriers Branch 219; and be it further
20 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
21delivered to the members of the Illinois congressional
