HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The University of Illinois System is an economic
3engine that drives progress for Illinois and the nation,
4having a $17.5 billion impact on the economy, awarding more
5than 23,000 degrees annually to support the workforce of
6tomorrow, and fostering economy-building innovation through a
7nearly $1 billion research portfolio; and
8 WHEREAS, The University of Illinois System seeks to
9influence policy decisions to benefit the entire State; and
10 WHEREAS, Studies have shown that each dollar invested into
11the University of Illinois System flows back into the State's
12economy at a rate of one to four; and
13 WHEREAS, Through a close working partnership with the
14General Assembly, both the University of Illinois System and
15the State of Illinois can capitalize on this investment for
16the good of all our constituents; and
17 WHEREAS, There is a significant need to introduce and
18evaluate legislation and policies that will affect the
19University of Illinois System and all of higher education;
20therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
2HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
3SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we express our support for the
4establishment of a joint legislative caucus to be formally
5known as the University of Illinois Legislative Caucus; and be
6it further
7 RESOLVED, That the University of Illinois Legislative
8Caucus will act as a forum for legislators and affiliate
9members to learn about important issues regarding higher
10education and to evaluate legislative issues that come before
11respective legislative chambers; and be it further
12 RESOLVED, That the members and the affiliate members of
13the University of Illinois Legislative Caucus will send a
14strong message about the importance of higher education and
15the issues that affect it and will work towards finding
16solutions to unmet needs; and be it further
17 RESOLVED, That we request recognition within the Illinois
18General Assembly as the caucus for issues that affect and
19relate to the University of Illinois System.
