Bill Title: Creates the Police Animal Retirement Act. Provides that a police animal, who is deemed no longer fit for public service, may be donated by the county, municipality, or other State law enforcement agency to the officer or employee who had normal custody and control of the animal during its service. Effective January 1, 2017.

2 | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

3 | represented in the General Assembly:

4 | Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Police | ||||||
5 | Animal Retirement Act.

6 | Section 5. Police animal retirement. A police animal, as | ||||||
7 | defined in Section 2.08 of the Humane Care for Animals Act, who | ||||||
8 | is deemed no longer fit for public service, may be donated by | ||||||
9 | the county, municipality, or other State law enforcement agency | ||||||
10 | to the officer or employee who had normal custody and control | ||||||
11 | of the animal during its service.

12 | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January | ||||||
13 | 1, 2017.
