Bill Title: Amends the Township Code. Provides that each office of a township collector in Sangamon County shall cease upon the expiration of a township collector's term or, if vacant, on the effective date of the amendatory Act. Further provides that upon the cessation of an office of a township collector, the Sangamon County Treasurer assumes the duties of the township collector of that township. Effective immediately.

SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

60 ILCS 1/50-32 new

Amends the Township Code. Provides that each office of a township collector in Sangamon County shall cease upon the expiration of a township collector's term or, if vacant, on the effective date of the amendatory Act. Further provides that upon the cessation of an office of a township collector, the Sangamon County Treasurer assumes the duties of the township collector of that township. Effective immediately.

1 AN ACT concerning local government.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing the
5heading of Article 50 and by adding Section 50-32 as follows:

ARTICLE 50. ELECTION AND

DISCONTINUANCE OF TOWNSHIP OFFICERS
9 (60 ILCS 1/50-32 new)
10 Sec. 50-32. Sangamon County township collectors.
11 (a) On and after the effective date of this amendatory Act
12of the 100th General Assembly, each office of township
13collector shall cease in Sangamon County upon the expiration of
14the current elected or appointed term of each township
15collector.
16 (b) If a township collector's office is vacant in Sangamon
17County on the effective date of this amendatory Act of the
18100th General Assembly, the vacancy may not be filled and that
19office ceases on the effective date of this amendatory Act of
20the 100th General Assembly.
21 (c) When an office of township collector ceases under this
22Section, the Sangamon County Treasurer assumes the duties of

1the township collector of that township. Section 50-25 of this
2Code shall not apply to Sangamon County even if township
3collectors were not elected in Sangamon County in 1937.
