Bill Title: Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that no person may occupy a vehicle or the cargo area of a second division vehicle while it is being towed upon a public highway. Creates an exemption when the vehicle does not exceed 15 miles per hour and is used in connection with a parade or farming activity, or if the speed does not exceed 15 miles per hour and the passenger is over 18.

AN ACT concerning transportation.
| ||||
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
| ||||
represented in the General Assembly:
| ||||
Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing | ||||
Section 11-1408 as follows:

Sec. 11-1408. Riding in towed vehicles house trailers . No | ||||
person or persons shall occupy
a house trailer, semitrailer, | ||||
farm wagon, or any other vehicle travel trailer while it is | ||||
being towed upon a public highway , unless: | ||||
(1) the occupancy of the towed vehicle is necessary to | ||||
avoid an imminent threat to a person's safety due to | ||||
extreme weather conditions or another emergency situation; | ||||
(2) the speed of the vehicle does not exceed 15 miles | ||||
per hour and the vehicle is used in connection with a | ||||
parade, farming-related activity, or similar activity; or | ||||
(3) the speed of the vehicle does not exceed 15 miles | ||||
per hour and the passenger is over the age of 18 .
