                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
                            BY  BISIGNANO
  1  1 A Resolution commemorating April 6, 2016, as the 25th
  1  2    anniversary of the conclusion of Operation Desert
  1  3    Shield/Desert Storm.
  1  4    WHEREAS, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm
  1  5 occurred from August 2, 1990, to April 6, 1991, in the
  1  6 Middle East; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, Iowa=based National Guard and Reserve
  1  8 units, and selected personnel, were deployed to
  1  9 the Middle East in support of Operation Desert
  1 10 Shield/Desert Storm; and
  1 11    WHEREAS, active duty military personnel from Iowa,
  1 12 stationed all over the world, served in Operation
  1 13 Desert Shield/Desert Storm in all branches of the
  1 14 United States Armed Forces; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, six military veterans and one civilian
  1 16 contractor from Iowa gave their lives during Operation
  1 17 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, on December 19, 2014, the National Desert
  1 19 Storm War Memorial Association received congressional
  1 20 and executive approval to build a National Desert Storm
  1 21 War Memorial in Washington, D.C., to honor the veterans
  1 22 from Iowa and the nation who were killed in Operation
  1 23 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and
  1 24    WHEREAS, February 28, 2016, marks the 25th
  1 25 anniversary of the date a cease=fire was declared
  1 26 concerning Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and
  1 27    WHEREAS, April 6, 2016, marks the 25th anniversary
  1 28 of the date Iraq officially accepted cease=fire terms
  2  1 to conclude Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; NOW
  2  2 THEREFORE,
  2  3    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
  2  4 recognizes and shows support for the future National
  2  5 Desert Storm War Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and
  2  6    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Senate commemorates
  2  7 the 25th anniversary of the date Iraq officially
  2  8 accepted cease=fire terms to conclude Operation Desert
  2  9 Shield/Desert Storm, April 6, 2016, and urges the
  2 10 citizens of this State to honor those Iowa veterans
  2 11 who served their country during Operation Desert
  2 12 Shield/Desert Storm.
